While not the most common issue, Chromecast can occasionally present problems with playing HDR content. The good news is that there’s a simple solution to overcome this error in just a few seconds.
Not everyone owns a high-end Smart TV, and some don’t have a smart TV at all, which is where Google Chromecast comes to the rescue. However, there’s a bug that can disrupt your HDR content playback. Fortunately, a straightforward remedy exists to fix this issue.

To ensure this fix works for your TV and Chromecast, your television must be compatible with HDR. If it is, follow these steps:
- Go to your device settings.
- Navigate to “Screen and Sound.”
- Tap on “Dynamic Range and Color Format.”
- Change the format setting from dynamic range to HDR.
- In “Preferences,” select “Dolby Vision.”
- Within the Dolby Vision menu, ensure that “Low Latency” is selected.
With these settings in place, you should no longer encounter issues when enjoying HDR10+ movies or series, whether on Prime Video or another streaming platform.

Please be aware that this solution is temporary, as the issue arises primarily after updating to Android 12. Google is expected to address this specific problem in future Chromecast updates. If your Chromecast remains on an earlier Android version, you won’t experience this HDR error. However, if an update becomes available, it’s recommended to install it, as it may include a fix. If your TV doesn’t support Dolby Vision, you can configure Chromecast to change its output from 4K60Hz to 4K30Hz.
