Personalize Your AI: OpenAI Introduces ‘Create a GPT’ for ChatGPT Users

As ChatGPT continues to make waves in the realm of Artificial Intelligence, OpenAI consistently bolsters its capabilities, introducing new features almost every month. One of its latest innovations is the ability to create your very own chatbot, refining your ChatGPT experience to cater specifically to your chosen theme and rules.

A More Personalized ChatGPT

Since the launch of ChatGPT in November 2022, there has been a growing desire to customize this AI, stripping away generic content to transform it into a specialized tool designed for a singular purpose. Responding to this demand, OpenAI has rolled out “Create a GPT,” an exciting addition included in the ChatGPT Plus subscription. With this tool, you can craft your unique version of ChatGPT.

While it’s the initial version of GPT Builder, it holds immense promise. This chatbot editor comes packed with a range of capabilities, offering options to share your custom GPTs with the public. The best part? It takes very little time to activate your personalized GPT.

Getting Started

Firstly, if you haven’t already, subscribe to ChatGPT Plus. You’ll find the subscription button on the left-hand menu within the ChatGPT interface, at the bottom, under an icon labeled “Upgrade.” Once you’ve paid the approximately 18 euros fee, you’ll unlock several extra features, including “Create a GPT,” and gain access to the latest and most capable GPT-4 version.

Crafting Your Chatbot

Now that you’re a Plus user, click on “Explore” in the left-hand menu. This will take you to a page titled “My GPT,” housing OpenAI’s custom GPT versions. Select “Create a GPT” to open the GPT Builder interface. It’s important to note that, as we’re in a beta phase, your completed GPT may be deleted when future updates roll out.

In the GPT Builder interface, you’ll start by defining what you want to build. You can keep this initial description concise or elaborate with a single sentence. If you’re clear about your intentions, brevity can suffice, but feel free to provide more detail for improved results.

Next, give your GPT a name. ChatGPT may suggest one, but you have the freedom to choose any name you like. As you name your GPT, an automatically generated profile image will appear, thanks to ChatGPT’s DALL-E integration. If the image doesn’t meet your expectations, you can request additional image regenerations, specifying your preferences.

Defining Tone and Style

You’ll then select the level of formality, determining the tone and style your GPT should adopt. This sets the initial rules for how it should engage with future users. If you find that it doesn’t adhere to your instructions as closely as you’d like, you can return to the Create tab and provide more specific guidance.

Enhance Customization

Finally, you can upload files containing relevant information you want your GPT to extract. These files can include legal documents, bibliography, jurisprudence, and more. The system will analyze the content and integrate what it deems pertinent based on the theme defined at the beginning. You can further tailor your experience by enabling or disabling add-ons, such as web browsing, DALL-E image generation, and the programming code interpreter. Additionally, you can empower it by incorporating third-party service APIs.
