O2 is one of the MVNOs in our country that offers the best service. This, owned by Movistar, has several fiber optic rates to its credit that reach up to 600 Mbps. But like everything else, it may happen that you are a client of this operator and you are not enjoying everything you have contracted to the fullest. This problem can be caused by many things, it may even be your problem. We give you some steps to follow so you can find out where the problem is .
Browsing slowly is a nuisance, and even more so when we have a fast fiber optic connection at home or in the office. This can be due to multiple factors , so we are going to give you some guidelines so you can check where the problem with your connection may be.

Follow these steps to stop slow sailing with O2
With a few checks it will not be difficult for you to know if the problem of slow browsing is caused by you or by the operator. The first thing you should do is check how much connection speed you get and, for this, you can use the same speed test that O2 offers. It is important to separate the cable and WiFi connections, since the error can be in different parts depending on the type of connection that we are using.
Wired connection
First of all, we must point out that the only way to be able to enjoy 100% of the speed that we have contracted is through a cable connection. O2 itself explains it in the same way, although with a couple of considerations that we should not overlook. Our device must be prepared to receive connection speeds of up to 1 Gbps , and the Ethernet cable we use must always be category 5 or higher .
For this reason, the second step that we must do is to check what characteristics the network card of our equipment has. To do this, we must go to Settings (you can write it in the search engine at the bottom left of Windows), Network and Internet, click on Ethernet on the left side of the screen and then on the right side where it says Change adapter options. Once this is done, another window will appear in which we must click on Ethernet with a double click and a screen similar to the one you can see below will appear, indicating whether our network card is Gigabit or not.

Regarding the above, it should be added that if our computer receives speeds very close to 100 Mbps both upload and download, it is likely that our network card is only 100 Mbps , so we would have to get a new one to enjoy of higher speeds. Another step that we must take is if your computer does not have an Ethernet port, since you will have to purchase a USB adapter. It is very important that the USB where we connect it is 3.0 , since otherwise we would not be able to take advantage of the 600 Mbps either.
Wi-Fi connection
As we have said before, by WiFi we will be able to connect to the Internet without having any cable, although in this way we will never be able to count on all the speed that we have contracted. This is due to environmental factors such as distance from the router, thickness of walls, mirrors, number of connected devices, etc. Something important to check is if we are connected to the 2.4 GHz network or the 5 GHz network, which offers higher speed, but with less range .
Here’s a list of more steps you can try to see if your connection improves:
- Check the fiber optic cable
It is very important that the condition of the fiber optic cable is always as good as possible. Any small fold or knot that we may have in it will affect the signal not reaching us as it should.
- Disconnect what you are not using
The devices that we have connected to our router will be consuming bandwidth as long as we have them connected, so it is worth always disconnecting those that we are not using.
- Change the Wi-Fi channel
As we have told you before, the WiFi channel is very important, since depending on which one we have, we will be taking advantage of more or less all the speed that we have contracted. It always tries to be connected to the 5 GHz network, called O2 WiFi Plus.
- Avoid potential interference
Some devices that we have at home can easily cause interference with our router, which will cause the WiFi signal to not reach our devices correctly. Always try to place your router away from any devices such as microwaves or Bluetooth speakers.
- Change the position of your router
Routers work best in elevated positions, as this will allow the signal to avoid objects of all kinds that are causing interference. Always try to place it as high as possible.
- Take the speed test at different times of the day
The connection problems you’re having with O2 may only occur at certain times of the day. By doing several speed tests a day, you will be able to know at what times the connection is saturating, which will allow you to more easily find the devices “culprit” of this bad connection.
If you have tried all of these steps, but are still having Internet problems, then it may be due to an installation failure or a service issue with your carrier . In that case, we recommend that you contact their customer service.
