DxOMark has just analyzed the camera of the Google Pixel 4a, the firm’s cheap mobile that was launched a couple of months ago, unlike the competition, with a single lens on the back. Despite not having additions such as a telephoto lens or an ultra-wide angle, we can say that the Google smartphone is the mobile with the best camera that you can buy for less than 400 euros.
While many manufacturers are betting on adding lenses and more lenses to their main camera, Google’s cheap mobile uses a single 12.2 MP lens with Dual Pixel technology to dominate the entire photographic section of the mobile. It is a sensor with a pixel width of 1.4 μm, aperture f / 1.7 and a field of view of 77º that has electronic and optical image stabilization.
The review group describes the Pixel 4a as an “excellent single camera smartphone . “ It received an average score of 111, being only behind the old Huawei Mate 20 Pro, which was once the mobile with the best camera on the market. In fact, the smartphone is also very close to the Huawei P40, occupying position 20 in the current ranking of mobile phones of the firm.
The cheap mobile with the best camera
The DxOMark team said they highlight that both photos and videos show fast and smooth autofocus and primarily accurate exposure. The photos show a neutral white balance and there is a nice white balance in night shots.
When it comes to videos, the exposure we see in the preview is similar to that of the capture result. Outdoor videos feature well-managed noise, while indoor and outdoor videos show vivid colors.
On the downside of the scale, we have limited dynamic range in both photos and videos and a slight tint of orange in low-light conditions and little detail in most conditions. Outdoor group portrait photos show limited depth of field.
With these pros and purchases, all the smartphones that are above the Pixel 4a in the DxOMark ranking exceed 500 euros, this being the cheapest model , as it costs 389 euros in the official Google store, and with a better camera than what that we have this year. Its main alternative would be the P20 Pro, with a score of 109 points, which costs 370 euros today on Amazon .
