We already know that Apple does not usually reveal its news before officially presenting products and although it is true that rumors can often be wrong, this is not the case with patents. The last one that has been known details a Touch ID system that would presumably mount the iPhone 13 under its screen and that, if fulfilled, would improve what its competitors have offered for years on Android.
An improved Touch ID system
That Apple will be late to the market with the Touch ID under the screen is a reality. There are those who say that although the Californian brand introduces the changes later, in the end it is more efficient in them. We cannot confirm if this statement is a fanboys justification or if it is a reality like a temple. Staying somewhere in between and according to what is known today, we can only say that the fingerprint reader will make its triumphant return in the iPhone 13 after several years in which it was replaced by Face ID, although this year both would coexist.

A patent application has been found in the United States Patent and Trademark Office with Apple as the author. The document describes a new sensor technology that would allow faster response and efficiency in a fingerprint reader located under the touch panel of a device that, in view of the rumors, would be none other than an iPhone. In this it is detailed how most devices with readers of this type use optical scanning systems by means of a light emitted from the screen and that serves to illuminate the user’s fingerprint.

In the Apple patent, what is described is a complex system that filters the light depending on the angle at which the screen and the sensor are located, in order to make a better contrast and maintain a compact detection system. This is still a development test and not a reality and although there is no evidence to confirm it, it seems that the final objective of this would be to offer a better reader than those of brands such as Samsung, Huawei or Xiaomi that have been offering this for years. type of biometric sensors.
Will it reach all iPhone 13 models?
This is one of the great doubts and although there is no uniformity of opinions among the different analysts, it seems that at least the ‘Pro’ and ‘Pro Max’ versions would incorporate this Touch ID under the screen. There is high probability that the standard model and the ‘mini’ will also adopt it, although if they do not, it will be integrated into the unlock button so as not to lose the user such a useful function today when masks and Face ID have not finished forging a good union.
Remember, it won’t be official until September
As you may already know, the iPhone release date is September. Some models have been delayed for some years due to production issues, such as in 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic caused some to be delayed until November. However this year everything seems to be going well and except for a surprise they will be presented and released in the same month of September, so until then we could not confirm these and other characteristics that have been playing so much in recent weeks.
