The new price catalog of the iPhone SE allows us to see a difference of 40 euros compared to its predecessor. A difference that is not really too big, but according to what has been seen in other iPhones that have been maintained over the years, it is very surprising. Is this growth really justified? We analyze it.

Some complicated improvements to take advantage of
Go ahead that the iPhone SE of 2022, like that of 2020 and 2016, is not a smartphone made for the most demanding public nor does it pretend to be. As its name (Special Edition) indicates, it is a special edition aimed at the most basic public that does not need great technological boasts or even a cutting-edge design. With having a powerful iOS, it’s worth it. And in this, the iPhone SE complies.
Now, precisely for that reason of not being a mobile oriented to large masses, this iPhone SE incorporates improvements that may not be able to take advantage of everything that one would like. On the one hand we have 5G connectivity , an increasingly necessary technology that served as an excuse for this renewal. Although the truth is that today there is still an evident lack of infrastructure that allows it to be squeezed.
The other great novelty of the iPhone SE 2022 (and almost the last) is the A15 Bionic chip. We know about the power of this processor thanks to the iPhone 13, but in the end it is certainly unnecessary. The better the chip, the longer the useful life, it is true. But we doubt that with an A14 it could not last a few years and give plenty of power for those looking for an efficient mobile.
The new iPhone SE is more characterized by absences . See for example the MagSafe technology, which without being somewhat disruptive, provides an interesting feature in order to be able to magnetize all kinds of accessories; from charging bases or magnetic supports, to being able to carry a card holder. The U1 chip , which considerably improves the functions of AirTags, is not present in this device either.
We leave the battery in a limbo for now. This has been the main weak point of the previous generation. According to Apple, there is an improvement in autonomy thanks to the A15 chip. However, they did not provide more information than that. Therefore, in the absence of testing it, we have the intuition that it is still the same capacity. It is understandable seeing the compact size of the device, but it will be necessary to see if functions such as the 5G connection do not end up destroying that good management of the processor.
Nor has there been an increase in storage capacity that makes the device go from the base 64 GB to the 128 GB that the rest of the iPhone has. Therefore, returning to the two new features it has, we understand that it is a very difficult price increase to justify. Not surprisingly, the implemented technologies should already be democratized because they are ultimately recycled from the iPhone 13.
