In times when the price of electricity worries us, saving every penny can be important for our pocket and for the bills at the end of the month. Turn off appliances that you don’t use, unplug when you leave… But there are other tricks that you may not have thought of: you can make the Movistar deco use less electricity.
If you have a Movistar decoder we can configure it so that it uses less electricity. There are a series of adjustments and functions that allow us to save a little on the bill from month to month. Although it will not make a big difference, we can prevent it from spending hours and hours on a day if you are not using it or from staying on at night when you have fallen asleep in front of the TV. In these cases, aim these two tricks.

Energy saving
The first of the tricks is to activate the eco mode or energy saving mode of the Movistar decoder, which will allow us to completely turn off the device to spend less. Although it has the drawback that it will take longer to turn on when we need it.
As they explain from the operator, “the energy saving mode allows to reduce the consumption of the decoder when it is turned off, but it will take longer to start up”. What it does is a complete shutdown so it won’t spend on standby even if we turn it off and it’s a good option if we want to save on the electricity bill and we’re not worried that it will take time to turn on when we use it again.
The steps to activate the energy saving mode are very simple from the decoder:
- Go to the Movistar decoder
- Tap on the gear icon to open the menu
- Open the settings menu
- Go to the shutdown modes option
- Choose the first option: Power saving mode
- Use the arrows to activate it

Set auto power off
One of the best functions that we can take into account is the automatic shutdown of the Movistar deco that makes the device enter a different mode if it is not being used or if you have not touched any button for a while. They explain from Movistar that the Movistar Plus+ decoders turn off automatically after six hours of inactivity to improve energy efficiency globally, reducing energy consumption. And to improve the experience of using the service by making it more agile. If you go six hours without watching television or without pressing any keys, a warning appears. After 15 minutes of the warning, it turns off.
But for this we have to check that we have this function activated.
- We open the Movistar decoder menu
- Let’s go to the decoder settings
- Look for the option “Power off modes”
- Once here, choose “Auto power off”
As you can see in the image, we can activate or deactivate it as needed.
