Huawei P50: The Mobile Could Use the Kirin 9000 CPU

We are used to seeing how Huawei Mate normally represents the arrival on the market of the first mobile phones equipped with the latest processor developed by Huawei in collaboration with TSMC. However, due to US restrictions, much has been speculated that the Huawei Mate 40 would be the last phones to mount a Kirin CPU.

Korean media outlet The Elec reports that the Huawei P50 series is scheduled for launch in the first half of 2021, citing sources close to the production of these devices. So far nothing new, since all members of the firm’s P family usually show up in the first half of the year.

But the web adds more interesting information like that LG and Samsung are preparing to supply OLED panels for the new flagship. Beyond this information the highlight is that the publication says that the Kirin 9000 processor is expected to power the new smartphone.

But isn’t there supposed to be no more Kirin?

Recall that a few weeks ago Huawei suggested that the Mate 40 series would be the last of the manufacturers that could house Kirin technology inside due to the problems to manufacture new chipsets. This report, if confirmed, suggests that Huawei might not make new processors but would still have enough Kirin 9000 chipsets to bring its 2021 flagships to life.

At first these chips were intended to ensure the performance of Huawei Mate 40 phones but it seems that sales have not accompanied much and now the firm has enough stock to incorporate this processor in the different Huawei P50s . So the brand may not yet have to rely on less capable chipsets or processors from other manufacturers.

Unfortunately, this is the only good news we expect for the brand because, even if the Huawei P50 series can accommodate the Kirin 9000 processor, the range will still be subject to US sanctions. The new US government has not yet spoken regarding the brand ban and it seems that there is not much intention of change. This means that the ban on the use of Google’s mobile services in the phone calls of the Chinese firm is still active.

We hope to hear more about the new Huawei smartphones as March and April of next year approach.
