Many of the most outstanding high-end of this year 2020 have already been presented, among which we find the Huawei P40 , the latest renovation of the Chinese company’s star mobiles. Choosing a new mobile is never easy, much less when it comes to two mobile phones like the ones we are facing this time. The high range is increasingly disputed and both Xiaomi and Huawei have shown that they are able to offer us the best results with complete equipment and software that leaves no one indifferent.
Design and displays
We start by looking at the back of both terminals, where the material commitment is different, on the one hand, the high-end Huawei uses aluminum alloy and a camera super module as the only element. Before this, the Xiaomi Mi 10 bets on glass as the main material and its camera module is placed vertically, maintaining a more traditional aesthetic. The measurements of both models are similar, with a thickness of 8.5 mm on the P40, somewhat smaller than the Xiaomi 9 mm which also has a higher weight with 208 grams.
Its screens offer us great image quality, in the case of the Huawei P40 with OLED technology and a size of 6.1 inches . It highlights its double hole in the screen to offer us a depth sensor, very small frames and a curved screen. The Xiaomi Mi 10 bets on a single front camera through the hole in the screen, also with curved glass and AMOLED technology for its unbeatable 6.67 inches .
As for the refresh rate, one of the technologies that we are going to find the most in the next devices, the Huawei P40 remains in the classic 60 Hz with HDR and the Xiaomi Mi 10 if it integrates 90 Hz to improve the visual experience, in addition to HDR10 .
Kirin vs Snapdragon
At the forefront of high-end operations we find two processors capable of everything and much more, on the part of Huawei the Kirin 990 itself that works at 2.86 GHz and by Xiaomi the Snapdragon 865 at 2.84 GHz. This minimal difference is repeated in the graph with the ARM Mali-G76 MP16 GPU from the Kirin and Qualcomm Adreno 650. RAM is one of the aspects that will be decisive in performance, since we have in the Huawei P40 with options of 6 and 8 GB of RAM of the LPDDR4X type, but Xiaomi offers us 8 and 12 GB of RAM with the latest LPDDR5 technology that will be faster.
The storage for the Huawei P40 is 128 or 256 GB in this case if it is UFS 3.0 just like Xiaomi, but adds the option to expand it through the NMCard itself . Xiaomi also offers us options of 128 and 256, although without the option of increasing the space for MicroSD cards.
We face the cameras of the Huawei P40 and Xiaomi Mi 10
We reached a key point where both companies have put their full potential to become the best cameras on the market. We start by knowing the cameras of the Huawei P40, a set of three lenses where the main and standard is 53 Mpx , accompanied by a wide angle of 16 Mpx and an 8 Mpx telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and 5x hybrid zoom, reaching the 30x digital zoom.
The Xiaomi Mi 10 is not afraid of this configuration and adds four lenses with a main sensor of 108 Mpx , wide angle of 13 Mpx , a depth sensor of 2 Mpx and another macro lens with the same configuration. As for the zoom, since we do not offer a telephoto lens, we will have to opt for digital zoom with its 108 Mpx lens.
In the front cameras Huawei offers us 32 Mpx with depth sensor and Xiaomi only 20 Mpx , lagging behind in this regard to second place. Video recording offers 4K and optical stabilizer in both cases, but Xiaomi also adds 8K recording .
Battery and connectivity
The battery is undoubtedly a differentiating value that can make us choose one or the other mobile and in this case both mobiles know what we are talking about. With a 3,800 mAh battery and 22.5W fast charge , Huawei is surpassed with the included wireless charging before a Xiaomi Mi 10 that offers us nothing more and nothing less than 4780 mAh with 30W fast charge compatible with wireless charging and reverse charging .
In connectivity, both models have been known to adapt to the needs of users by adding 5G in all its models and versions, as well as Bluetooth 5.1 and NFC . In none of them as it is already usual in the high range we have an audio jack although if infrared in the Xiaomi Mi 10.
EMUI vs MIUI
The operating system of both models is based on Android, although due to the problems that have affected Huawei and the United States, it incorporates Android AOSP over EMUI 10.1. This affects not including Google services, although little by little we are finding mechanisms and options to install them on our mobile. EMUI is one of the most complete customization layers where we will not miss anything.
As for Xiaomi and its MIUI 11 layer, it works on Android 10 with Google services and as we have already seen in the comparison between EMUI 10 and MIUI 11 , we have before us the best option if we do not have Android stock among our options. It is difficult to opt for one of the two, although possibly Google services make many choose MIUI to avoid problems or some kind of unnecessary complication.
Prices and purchase recommendation
The price at which we are going to find the Huawei P40 and the Xiaomi Mi 10 will be very important when making a decision. Both models are in the 799 euros during the presale, accompanied in both cases by gifts that should not be an important factor in our decision unless we were thinking of buying any of these gifts. Both devices have shown in this comparison that it has the best equipment with high-level processors, hardly surmountable screens and a set of cameras where it is difficult for us to choose between greater detail or the telephoto lens.
Depending on the needs of each one and taking into account our priorities such as the battery, cameras or what is our favorite personalization layer, we will have to choose the Huawei P40 or the Xiaomi Mi 10. In our opinion, taking into account the Google services and a bigger battery with more options, the Xiaomi Mi 10 is our favorite option, although as we have mentioned before, your decision is the one that will finally make you choose the right product.
