Sound problems are nothing new on iPhone . It is something that should not happen, but it is possible that during the useful life of the terminal, we encounter this inconvenience that on many occasions, we can solve ourselves. It does not matter the model, since if you have sound problems , the frustration will be the same in an iPhone 11 Pro Max of 1,600 euros as in the new iPhone SE 2020 of 489 euros.
When sound problems begin to appear, there are several doom where sound failures could manifest. The worst of all is that we hear absolutely nothing on our iPhone. But we can also find ourselves with a lower sound than usual or even poor quality sound, when before everything sounded perfectly. Let’s take a look at the most common solutions to these sound problems on iPhone.

Nothing is heard
Mute button
If our iPhone has a tone / mute switch , we must move it upwards (towards the device screen) so that the orange color is not visible. It is very classic that Silent Mode is activated and the user does not notice for a while, therefore, it is easy to think that it is due to a problem with the audio of the mobile.
Do not disturb mode
The Do Not Disturb feature on our iPhone allows you to mute calls, alerts and notifications that we receive while the device is locked . We can also program Do not disturb and allow calls from certain people. To check that it is not activated and what is causing the problem, we will have to go to Settings / Do not disturb
Check settings
Another verification that we will have to do on our iPhone is to check the settings to verify that the sounds are activated and is the cause of the problem. To do this, we go to Settings> Sounds (or Settings> Sounds and vibrations) and drag the Chime and warnings slider from left to right several times. If we don’t hear any sounds, or if the speaker button on the Timbre & Alerts slider is dimmed, we may have some damage to the speaker.

Try with a call
One of the tests to continue ruling out culprits involves making a call with the iPhone and activating the speaker. If we still hear nothing, or hear crackling or static noise, it may be due to a network or reception problem. In that case we will have to try to call again later or from another place.
It is heard low
When the speaker is poorly heard, there is not much room for maneuver. In this case we either have a hardware problem and it is damaged or dirty. In the first case we can only ask for help from the technical service, but in the second we can do something ourselves.
Clean the speaker
We will have to check the speaker opening to see if it is covered or dirty. Only on the iPhone, check that the receiver is not blocked or dirty. If necessary, clean the speaker or receiver opening with a small soft-bristled brush. Make sure the brush is clean and dry. This can also be done through an app, which will squeeze the speaker volume to the maximum and expel any accumulated dust.

Turn up the volume
Despite it seems too logical, there are many users who solve their problems when they realize that the sound was at a minimum. This occurs when the call and multimedia volume controls are confused. On many occasions we think we are raising a volume when in fact it is another than our objective. A mandatory step is to check this aspect before looking for other culprits at a low volume on our iPhone.
Damaged speaker
Crunches, low sound, and without any of the above fixes it, it’s time to start thinking that our iPhone’s speaker is damaged . The causes could have been several, from a small blow that could have damaged the interior and its connection, to the humidity of a hot water bath when the iPhone was also in service. In this case, it is best to contact Apple Technical Service to resolve the problem.

Poor sound
It is possible that our iPhone rings and does it at a good volume, but in many cases the sound quality is not as desired. This causes the multimedia experience in music, movies or our own videos to be affected. In this case we can also make a series of adjustments, which will help us improve this quality. Obviously, we always start from the limited power of each speaker and that an older iPhone does not sound the same as a more modern one. In addition, we will have to start from the premise that the speaker is not damaged and that it is the cause of a bad sound.
Adjust the sound
The iPhone allows us to change the audio and video settings, such as mono audio, audio balance or noise cancellation. In this way we will improve the quality of the sound. To adjust the volume balance and mono audio we will have to go to Settings / Accessibility / Audio / Video. In the “Mono Audio” section we can combine the left and right channels into a mono signal that is reproduced by both channels. Likewise, the Balance allows us to drag a slider to the right and left to leave the stereo sound to our liking.
Noise Cancellation
Another way to improve quality is to activate noise cancellation. In this case, the feature reduces background ambient noise on phone calls while holding the handset close to your ear. It can be activated from Settings / Accessibility / Audio / Video. In that menu we will see the option to activate or deactivate “Noise Cancellation”

An app also fixes it
A solution that also works, is to download a third-party app that offers more sound customization options and a powerful equalizer. One of the best is Boom. This app features a custom 16-band equalizer and 29 presets including 3D surround sound. It has a simple interface and settings for popular music programs like Spotify.
