How to easily create routines in Alexa

Alexa’s routines allow the voice assistant to act as you want in certain situations that occur frequently, such as when you wake up or when you get home among many others, it even opens the garage door for you when you get home if you want. Therefore, it is interesting that you know how to create your own routines in the Amazon voice assistant.

You can easily create custom routines or manage some that are already in Alexa, adapting them to you. I will tell you what you can do to make this task simple and adjust the wizard to your needs and preferences without having to spend practically no time on this task.

Remember that in these steps you may have to give permissions for the app to act, so don’t be afraid to give them.

Create a step-by-step routine in under a minute

Even if you think there are many steps, it is very fast and you will have your routines ready for whatever you need. You can make as many as you want and always have them at hand to modify, delete, add new ones or whatever you want.

  1. open the app
  2. Sign in with your account if you haven’t already
  3. Click on More at the bottom right
  4. Above you will see several options, among which is Routines
  5. Click on the option
  6. Later, in the + of Create routine that is on the next page
  7. Write the name of the routine
  8. Select when (you have the options to do it by voice, on time, with your digital home, alarms or sound detection)
  9. Add what you want Alexa to do by selecting the option under Action
  10. Confirm your choices and it will tell you what Alexa is going to do
  11. Hit next and you will have the routine, you just have to confirm save
  12. When you have done it, the routine will be ready

With up to 99 routines on your account , you have plenty to prepare Alexa to do what you want at the right time.

Of course, remember that the instructions are precise because if you change something, it could ignore you. For example, I did a test with my ‘take out the garbage’ command and I realized that if I say ‘take out the garbage’ it doesn’t listen to me because it doesn’t recognize the order. Keep that in mind when setting up your routines and giving voice commands.

Faster: Customize existing routines

In addition to adjusting the routines you’ve created if you need to later, you can customize the ones already in the featured section (next to my routines, in the Routines section) to save time when creating new routines.

You just have to find something that resembles what you want, modify it and hit save.

For example, you can have it welcome you home with the news of the day and soothing music. You have the possibility to leave the order as it is if it is exactly what you are looking for and press Activate, but if you want in the same tab of the routine, before activating it, you can modify it. In my case, I prefer that instead of when he says good morning, he does it when I say ‘good morning’. By viewing or modifying in the When you can change the phrase or put some new ones, depending on what interests you.
