Galaxy SmartTag, Samsung’s Location Tags

It seems that 2021 could be the year in which you could stop worrying about losing those important objects of your day to day. If we are still waiting to know what Apple‘s AirTags will definitely be like, now it is Samsung who also seems interested in launching its own smart tags. This is what we know about future Galaxy SmartTags .

Galaxy SmartTag

Throughout 2020 there has been a device or rather accessory that has been talked about a lot and has not been launched: Apple’s AirTags. This is nothing more than a small location that we can place our objects to know their position at all times. Yes, exactly the same thing that Tile has been doing for so many years.

The great advantage, or so it is supposed, of Apple’s proposal is that it will use the entire system already created based on Find my iPhone to create an incredible global search network. So even being out of range offered by Bluetooth technology, you could know where that object that you placed the smart tag is.

Well, Samsung seems to be also interested in launching its own alternative and it will be called the Galaxy SmartTag. Devices very similar to the Tile and for which all the data is not yet known, especially if they will offer something similar to what Apple’s would allow or not. But still there are interesting details that will make them a product to take into account and more practical a priori than their direct rivals.

Of the little that is known about the Galaxy SmartTag, the first thing that stands out is its design. And not because it is novel but on the contrary, they are very similar to those you can already see with the Tiles. The difference here is in the thickness, something that is justified with the use of a button battery that you can change when it runs out .

That means that despite being somewhat more bulky, these Galaxy SmartTags are much more practical since you can change the battery and you will not have to buy another when it runs out. So the savings, despite being relatively inexpensive accessories, are noticeable and appreciated.

For the rest, they are devices that continue to use Bluetooth technology to emit a signal that an application could then locate after pairing with the device. Thus, once you enter within the range of action, you would know perfectly well where you left the house keys, the car, the wallet or any other object to which you put this label. What we do not know is if Samsung will have been able to create something similar to Apple’s global search network.

2021, the year you will stop losing items (or almost)

With the news of these supposed Galaxy SmartTags that Samsung will launch shortly it is clear that 2021 could be the year in which you could stop worrying about losing your most valuable items or almost. Because if Samsung is taking this step and Apple’s AirTags are also expected to arrive, it is very likely that other brands such as Xiaomi, Oppo, Realme, OnePlus, etc., will launch their own versions.

At the end of the day, as has happened with smart bracelets such as Mi Band or smart watches, they are a really easy accessory to manufacture for basic actions such as emitting a signal and locating it. Another thing is to create a massive search system and network as Apple could do thanks to the large number of devices they sell each year. But to have located inside the house at all times where you left the keys, the wallet or even the remote control are interesting.
