Features Removed from Windows 10 October 2020 Update

Little by little, the new Windows 10 update, 20H2, begins to reach all users. It is true that it is not a very large update, neither in terms of news, nor in size (since it occupies only 100 MB), but it does mark a turning point, a new layer of stability for the second update of 2020 so that users can continue to use the operating system with the best possible experience from now on. However, not everything has been improvements and corrections, and it is that Microsoft has taken advantage of the update to eliminate two features present in previous versions of this OS.

None of these changes should take us by surprise. Microsoft had already indicated it, at least a year ago. And, now, they have come true.

Features Removed from Windows 10 October 2020 Update

End of MBAE service for developers

Because it is no longer necessary, and developers do not use it, Microsoft has taken the opportunity to clean up the operating system and has removed the MBAE service from Windows 10 . This service was long ago used by developers to create and send metadata packages so that a fully integrated experience with Windows 10 could be offered.

From now on, developers will no longer be able to use MBAE in their applications. However, what Microsoft has done has been to replace this feature with a new one, based on UWP, called MO UWP . This application does, broadly speaking, the same as MBAE, but with the difference that it is not necessary to create the Sysdev metadata, but rather it retrieves it from a database.

MO WUP has been available in Windows 10, and as a default tool, since version 1803 . This version was also the one that marked MBAE as obsolete and indicated to the developers the existence of this new application to manage metadata.

This is obviously a change that only affects developers. Users will not notice changes in this regard. The only thing that if we use an old program, not updated for MO UWP, then we will not be able to run it until the developer updates it.

Goodbye to the classic Windows 10 Edge

This change already affects us more. Microsoft already considers its classic Edge browser obsolete, and wants as many users as possible to upgrade to the new Edge Chromium as soon as possible. Although the company has already installed this browser by force on many computers, it will not be until now when its distribution begins in a massive way.

Therefore, starting with the new October 2020 Update, the classic Edge will disappear , giving way exclusively to the new Chromium-based Edge. There is no way to block the deletion of this browser or the installation of the new one. The update process itself forces the deletion of the classic and the installation of the new browser, nothing can be done to avoid it, except not to update.

Edge clásico

The transition between browsers is simple, since Edge Chromium itself will allow us to import all the data from the old browser to the new one. Thus, with a couple of clicks we will be ready to start browsing again, and we will not have to worry about anything else.
