Don't say 'Ok Google' to your car or it will break

As you know, mobile manufacturers are gradually updating to the new version of the Android 13 operating system on their compatible phones, bringing with it many improvements and new features. However, it is not being a path of roses because it has not been without problems . Now these will be given in your car.

The update to Android 13 is being complicated on many occasions because it is failing in some services , such as Android Auto. This service is increasingly used by car users as an infotainment system, so it is essential for many, and these errors that seem to have occurred after an update are upsetting many.

Don't say 'Ok Google' to your car or it will break

The update to Android 13 has been a headache for many of them, since they have encountered major compatibility problems between these systems. There are many users who report that the Google assistant does not work as it should after updating.

Errors in Android Auto after an update

In a Google support thread this problem is reported that is affecting many users when they use their car and in which the cause of the problem would be the ‘Hey Google’ or ‘Ok Google’ command.

As you can see in the image, when you call the function with your voice, the bottom function bar of Android Auto is emptied without showing any links. For some it works only the first time, others already have the problem from the first moment.

User Bram Leland Scolnick seeks a solution by saying the following:

Hello, since a few days, only when Android Auto is connected to my phone, saying Hey Google makes my radio screen go black or the taskbar. To turn black. No response from Google. If I press the microphone button on the screen or my steering wheel, it works. Just not advertised. I reset the connection (cleared data, cache) and it worked… for an hour. I have a Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G now running Android 13 and the latest Android Auto 8.5… whatever is on the play store (not beta, standard channel release). Please help

Another says he has the same problem connecting via cable:

I have the exact problem and I connect via cable. I’ve tried everything you have, including using a different phone, with no luck.

It works for one user, but only the first time:

Same thing for me for the last 4 days or so. Google assistant works fine on my phone. When I connect the phone via a cable to my car, it will answer the first time, but if I make a second verbal request, the screen goes black and there is no answer.

One encourages uninstalling the Google Assistant update , as the problem is this. Users who use a specific button to activate the assistant do not have this problem as much, although some do encounter this error without being able to execute any commands or give any voice commands.

It is not something specific to a specific mobile model, but rather there are many users from different manufacturers who have commented that this problem gives them. From Google, Pixel, Redmi, Sony and Samsung, among others.

The problem did not occur before, but after the arrival of Android 13, so it is most likely due to a recent update of the Google application. This is so because, although they had Android 13 for a long time, it is now when Google Pixel phones begin to have this Android Auto error.

Can’t read messages aloud

This is not the only error that users have encountered when using this service, but many have also encountered the serious inconvenience that the assistant cannot read messages aloud. Of course, it is not something that happens to all users, but there have been few who have complained about this .

More users may appear assuring that the same thing happens to them, although for now few are affected. However, it is a mistake that has already been repeated on numerous occasions and is quite problematic for many who see this essential function.

What should I do?

It is not something that has an easy fix beyond temporarily uninstalling the update . This is the only thing that works right now, as the previous version 13.21.17.29.arm64 (June) fixes the ‘Hey Google’ bugs in Android Auto.

We will have to wait for Google to fix it as soon as possible , surely with a new update, something that we imagine will happen since there are many who have complained about this.
