If you have the need to send several files through Mail, surely you have a severe problem with the weight of the documents or photographs. The smartest thing in these cases is to compress them in order to weigh much less and send much easier. On the iPhone or iPad we can make this operation relatively easy through the renewed Files application. In this article we tell you the steps you should follow.

Compress a single file on iPhone or iPad
In Files we can compress a single document or image that has a high weight to make it much easier when sharing it. We just have to go to the Files application on both iPhone or iPad and follow the steps below:
- Find the file or folder you want to compress.
- Make a long press on this file or folder.
- In the drop-down menu that emerges, we will press at the end where it says ‘Compress’.

Once we have followed these steps, a compressed file will be generated that will be in the same location. This we believe may be something to improve, since we believe it would be quite good if they ask the location of the new compressed file when it is to be generated. This is something we can have both in Windows or in macOS and we think it may be interesting that they include in future iOS and iPadOS updates.
Compress multiple files
If on the contrary you need to compress several documents or images, you can also do it in a relatively simple way. Simply follow these steps:
- Enter the Files application on your iPhone or iPad and locate the documents you want to compress.
- You must select all these documents by touching in the upper right corner where it says ‘select’. Once it has been pressed we can select each of the files we want to compress.
- Touch on the three ellipses found in the lower right corner.
- Click on the ‘Compress’ option .

As in the previous case, the new compressed file that is generated will be stored in the same location. In this way we can go to for example our email manager and when we want to choose a file we must go to Files and look in the same folder where we have done this process of compressing.
