The Batteries of the Future: More Durable and 10 Times Cheaper Than Lithium

More Durable and 10 Times Cheaper Than Lithium

Technology and its advances have allowed many devices to have much more autonomy and last longer. From mobiles to remote controls or even watches. The most common material for batteries has always been lithium, but a company has created what could be the batteries of the future , which are also 10 times cheaper than lithium.

The American company Form Energy is creating a new battery project that could be the ones that will be used in many devices in the future , as it is a new energy source that stores a lot of power and is more effective than traditional energy sources that they pollute more.

More endurance and 100 hours of energy

Instead of lithium, these batteries would be made of iron and would store more than 90 hours of energy at a price 10% cheaper than traditional lithium batteries available today.

This is a great alternative to use together with other renewable energies such as solar, hydroelectric or wind energy. However, these renewable energy sources may sometimes not be available when there is no wind or a cloudy day, for example.

Therefore, this project of very durable batteries is a good way to accumulate energy and also cheap.

Other companies have already launched their own prototypes of batteries that accumulate a lot of energy, but they pollute the environment a lot and do not have much resistance, since over the years they end up wearing out.

Form Energy batteries would be the key to achieving an energy source that lasts longer and cheaper .

Iron and air instead of lithium, the key

Its iron batteries would also use air to take advantage of oxygen and thus create a reaction that generates energy. This was a form of technology that became obsolete many decades ago due to different technical problems, but which was used again for 9 years since the solution to the inconveniences was found.

There are still no technical specifications on these new batteries, but the company assures that they will have a lot of autonomy because they will use an iron anode that will be the largest ever built.

However, the company does not rule out that its iron and air batteries make lithium batteries disappear, but that both coexist together , since depending on the situation one battery of one type may be more useful than the other.

Another of their strengths is that they will be manufactured with recyclable materials, which favors the environment. The project already has several companies behind it financing everything. For now, everything collected is a figure greater than 250 million euros.
