With each version of Windows, and even with each update, the operating system evolves to be more modern, simple and accessible to all types of users. One of the latest evolutions of this OS was the new Settings menu, a panel from which we can easily access all kinds of settings, tools, and internal functions of the system. But while most users use these new tools, Microsoft is hesitant to remove classic, outdated features from its system. Here we have 4 examples of it.
Dashboard
Of course, the first item we need to talk about is none other than the Control Panel . From the first versions of Windows, at the beginning of the 90s, this panel was a section, designed for advanced users, from which we could access all kinds of tools and functions for the administration of the operating system.
With the arrival of Windows 10, and the new Settings panel, this control panel has become obsolete, and is less and less necessary, since most of the settings can be made from the new panel. All it does is have redundant features and tools.
Sooner or later it will end up disappearing. But, for now, we have a redundant tool that also collides with the appearance and philosophy of this system.
Space Cleanup
Over time, Windows fills up with junk and unnecessary files that, in addition to taking up space on the hard drive, make the PC slower than normal. To help us clean the computer, Microsoft included this free space , which allowed us to delete temporary system files to empty the trash, and even delete data from past Windows updates.
The latest versions of Windows 10, and Windows 11, include a new and improved tool called Storage Sense . This tool is included in the configuration panel, and allows us to clean, in a much more complete and efficient way, everything related to unnecessary files on the computer. Therefore, this space cleaner is a totally unnecessary tool, although it is still present on the PC.
Optional Features
In addition to the basic functions that are installed in Windows, we also find in the operating system a section called “optional features” from which we can add, or deactivate, extra system functions. For example, from here we can add the web or FTP server, as well as virtualization with Hyper-V or the Linux Subsystem for Windows.
This section has been moved to the Windows 10 and Windows 11 Settings panel. From there it is much easier to add or remove features to the operating system, as well as find the features we need quickly without having to go through the list one by one. Therefore, this panel of features is completely obsolete.
Uninstall programs
Within the control panel we can find a well-known and used tool that allows us to uninstall the programs that we have installed. This tool has also been part of the operating system since its inception. But it has become obsolete.
Windows has a section, within the configuration panel, from which we can see all the installed programs (including the apps from the store), manage them (for example, to reinstall them, delete their data, or repair them), as well as delete them by default. full PC. A much more graphic panel, and full of possibilities, that leave the classic panel in a very bad position.
