3 Out of 10 Users Use an Old Version of Windows, How about You?

Old Version of Windows

Users are reluctant to update Windows 10 . And it is normal, considering the history of Microsoft with its updates. Rare is the month in which patches, regardless of quality or safety, do not bring users upside down. And better not even talk about the big semi-annual updates. This has created fear of Windows updates, causing many users to stay on old versions of the OS indefinitely. But this is dangerous, since the versions of Windows 10 do not last forever, and after a while (18 months) they are without support.

Only 70% of users have a 2020 version

As the latest AdDuplex report shows , the 2004 version of Windows 10 is currently installed on 42% of all computers, almost half. Just behind this version we find 20H2, the last version, to date, of the operating system, with a 30% market share (50% more than last month). In total, just over 70% of total operating system users are using a 2020 version . But there are still almost 30% of users.

Market share Windows 10 March 2021

It’s funny how more and more users decide to give Microsoft’s Insider program a chance. In January of this year, the number of Insider users was just 0.1%, increasing to 0.3% in February. Now, in March, this percentage has risen to 0.5%, a most interesting fact.

2 out of 10 users will stop receiving updates in just over a month

Just over 18% of Windows 10 users are using 19H2 , the second operating system update. This version, to this day, continues to receive support from Microsoft, so it is not a danger to use it. However, its end of support is just around the corner, and it is that, as of next May 11, all versions of Windows 2019 will be without support, left to fate.

1 in 10 users use unsupported Windows

In addition, there are about 10% of users (that is, 1 in 10) who use versions prior to 1909 of the operating system. Using these versions is dangerous, since they do not receive any kind of support from Microsoft, and they have serious flaws that can endanger the safety of users.

Windows 10 21H1 just around the corner: will fragmentation increase?

The new Windows 10 update, 20H2, is expected to arrive very soon. Microsoft is already putting the finishing touches to its new version, which, if all goes well, should reach users in a few weeks. Windows 10 21H1 will be a minor update, with very few improvements and news, focused, above all, on correcting errors and improving the operation of the OS.

Insider users can now download and use this new version, but users of the stable version of the operating system will still have to wait a little longer before updating.

Now we can only wait to see if, in the end, Windows 10 21H1 manages to be a good update , free of problems, to which everyone will update, or if it only serves to increase the fragmentation of the operating system.
