The goal of this new feature in Windows Defender is to provide users with a new report where they can help keep track of vulnerable Windows and macOS devices that may exist within an organization’s environment.
This report allows to obtain graphs with different statistics and details on the tendencies of vulnerable devices that currently exist, in order to provide administrators with the real knowledge of the exposure of these computers and the extent they have.
Data can be filtered based on the severity level of the vulnerability, the availability of the explosion, the time of that vulnerability, the operating system platform, the version of Windows 10 or the device group. The administrator can further explore certain information to obtain bar graphs and view a filtered list of devices.
From all this, an administrator can extract information related to the severity of the device’s vulnerability (from here, for example, see all devices with critical severity), whether or not there are exploits available (to know, for example, all devices with vulnerabilities and that they have with exploits), the date of the vulnerabilities, as well as the vulnerable devices according to the operating system.
Charts to control vulnerabilities
Take the vulnerability severity graph as an example. In this case, it would show us the number of devices according to the most serious vulnerability detected for each of them, while the exploit availability graph will show the number of vulnerable devices according to the highest level of known exploit.
In short, Windows Defender now allows to obtain graphs and reports on existing vulnerabilities in other computers both with Windows and with macOS. The goal is to give administrators the ability to learn more about security flaws and thus be able to improve problems as soon as possible.
