Huawei has stated on several occasions that, regardless of the change of government in the United States, they will continue with the path started more than a year ago. Regardless of whether the brand’s mobile phones can use Android normally or not, the brand will continue to bet heavily on the development of its own operating system, HarmonyOS.
Huawei is aware that the path to Google services could be non-existent even with a new North American president, which is why the company is making maximum progress with its own operating system. so much so that the first beta of the software for the manufacturer’s first devices could arrive in just a month.

HarmonyOS Beta December 18
According to Wang Chenglu, president of the software department of Huawei Consumer Business Group, the open source platform of the system will be available to developers next month, specifically on December 18 . This means that developers will be able to do all their testing with the closed beta of the operating system in view of a hypothetical launch of a public beta in the second quarter of 2021.
The executive says that around 90% of the company’s smartphones should be ready to receive this update, once the software has been sufficiently tested during the first months of next year. In this way, the brand ceases to be aware of the small possibility that the United States could soften its position and allow Google to work with Huawei .
Now, in 2021, a perspective of a divided market opens, not in two large operating systems as it happens until now, with the Android vs iOS war always present, but with HarmonyOS sharing the stage in third place.
What mobiles can be updated?
Huawei follows in this way its HarmonyOS roadmap to the letter, since it indicated that the new operating system would begin to be tested on mobile phones at the end of the year, with a view to a global launch in mid-2021.
On paper, this beta will be compatible with equipment up to 4 Gb of RAM but from next year this limitation will be eliminated. By then it is expected that the first devices to be updated will be mobiles equipped with a Kirin 9000 CPU, that is, the different Huawei Mate 40 presented last month. After these phones, it would be the turn of the Huawei P40s powered by the Kirin 990 5G processor.
