The impending debut of the upcoming iPhone 15 prompts contemplation over the choice of model for this year. My decision seems more resolute than in previous instances, and I’ll outline the rationale behind my choice in this article.
The unveiling of a new iPhone consistently stirs anticipation, particularly for enthusiasts like me who appreciate Apple‘s evolution showcased annually. While it’s not imperative to upgrade iPhones every year—quite the contrary—I find it intriguing to share my preference for this year’s selection.

Skipping the Base Model
Although the non-Pro variants, often referred to as the base models, boast impressive functionality and capabilities, they don’t align with my preferences. Last year’s experience with the foundational iPhone 14 demonstrated that it missed out on a standout feature—the dynamic island. Typically, the quantum leap in terms of innovations is more pronounced when opting for the pro range, as opposed to the standard one.
The sole circumstance that might sway me towards the base model of the iPhone 15 would be if Apple introduced a particularly striking new color scheme. Under such circumstances, I might consider selecting the base model solely for its design appeal, without any other significant factors influencing my choice.

Full Embrace of the Pro Model
One thing stands resolutely clear in my mind: my next iPhone will undeniably be the most compact variant of the iPhone 15. Within the iPhone Pro range, my affinity leans far from the Pro Max models—much like my lack of enthusiasm for the Plus models in prior iterations. The allure of possessing a sizable iPhone is overshadowed by the inconveniences it brings. A compact device offers the advantage of being lightweight and easily pocketable. Moreover, the ability to use the iPhone single-handedly holds appeal; the cumbersome nature of large screen models makes typing feel unwieldy.
While smaller devices might naturally entail slightly reduced battery longevity, this doesn’t perturb me greatly. Working from home affords me the luxury of charging my iPhone whenever needed. When embarking on journeys, packing a charging cable or an external battery serves as a straightforward solution.
Camera quality significantly factors into my iPhone selection. However, its prominence in my decision-making has gradually waned over time. The potential inclusion of a periscope camera in the iPhone Pro Max model—whether debuting with the iPhone 15 or perhaps awaiting the iPhone 16—piques my curiosity. Yet, I’m inclined to believe its utility in my day-to-day usage might be limited. Thus, the enhanced cameras of the Pro model should more than suffice.
While color choice purely caters to aesthetics, I’m eager to witness Apple introduce fresh hues for the iPhone 15 Pro lineup this year. Rumors of an intriguing copper orange shade have circulated, and if realized, it would secure my preference. In the absence of novel color offerings, my selection would decidedly gravitate toward space gray or white, dismissing silver as an option. Last year’s deep purple hue, in my opinion, fell rather flat in terms of visual appeal.

Optimistically Awaiting an iPhone 15 Mini
I’m holding out hope for the return of an iPhone 15 Mini, although I recognize that the odds are slim. It would be fantastic if Apple could resurrect this model and enhance its features. In my perspective, it stands as the finest iteration of the iPhone ever crafted. Granted, there are some shortcomings, particularly in battery performance, but what truly excites me is the potential to elevate an iPhone Mini to the caliber of an iPhone Pro model. Achieving such a feat would be truly remarkable, though I’m realistic in understanding that this might not materialize in this year’s presentation.
