PlayStation online services are currently down. PlayStation 5 and PS4 users cannot access their multiplayer games or use PlayStation Now cloud games among other services that cannot be used right now.
PlayStation Network (or PSN) is down. Whether we take a look at the PlayStation status website or incident reporting services like Downdetector, the answer is the same: PlayStation Network online services are not working.

Some media such as VGC blame the new firmware update for PS5 and PS4, published today, as the cause of this service outage.

Worldwide PlayStation server crash
If we take a look at the PlayStation page that informs about the status of its online services, we will notice that different features of the service that PlayStation provides are marked in red (“some services are having technical problems”).

Games and social networks: both the possibility of playing multiplayer titles that require a PlayStation Plus subscription, as well as free-to-play titles that do not need it, are currently impossible. Neither do the options to share images or game clips directly on social networks like Twitter or YouTube work, since the PlayStation servers where these files are hosted cannot be synchronized.

PlayStation Now: PlayStation’s cloud gaming service is also not available. Their entire catalog is impossible to access at this time and games have been offline since approximately 13:33.
“You may be having difficulty streaming PlayStation Now games. We are trying to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.”

PlayStation Store: Right now it is impossible to access the PlayStation digital store to buy games, additional downloadable content (DLCs) or any type of online subscription such as PlayStation Plus or PlayStation Now.
Likewise, the pages to redeem third-party codes are disabled and problems are being reported to download games from our own library. Updates and patches are disabled. There should be no problem playing your own digital games already downloaded on PS4 or PS5.

What services work?
Fortunately, not all PlayStation online services are offline.
PlayStation Network Status
PlayStation Network account management works, so you can still do things like customize your profile or add or remove payment methods for purchases on PlayStation Store. PlayStation Video currently works as well, so you shouldn’t have a problem accessing purchased or rented movies or downloading streaming TV apps.
If the PlayStation Network status page returns to normal and you still cannot access PlayStation online services, you can call customer service on 911 147 422 from Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. :00 with Spanish peninsular time or you can access the Sony chatbot to explain your problem.
Stay tuned for this same news, as we will update when PSN returns to normal and meanwhile attend to the company’s indications on social networks.
