In what are the dawn of flexible mobile technology, it is curious to see how each manufacturer interprets the raw material (a flexible OLED panel) for the creation of their models. We recently saw the launch of the new Galaxy Fold 2, whose concept is different from the Motorola Razr or the Galaxy Z Flip. Now we see a flexible screen again, whose use will be radically different, since it does not seek to expand, but quite the contrary , to compact the smartphone to its smallest possible size.
There are still many major manufacturers that have not joined this technology but are working on it. OPPO is one of these companies, and its latest patent, approved today August 28 at the CNIPA (China National Intellectual Property Administration), adds a new player to the board, with a very different concept from those seen so far.
Extendable flexible / mobile screen
The designs that accompany the OPPO patent show a phone that instead of extending its screen, it folds to offer a totally compact design. That is, it can be comfortably carried in a pocket. This futuristic look collides with other concepts, as it cannot be expanded as a tablet, but it does offer two different sizes. The phone allows you to slide the screen up to be used, but it does so in two options, with only 25% of its screen useful, or a full mode.
In addition, the right side of the device has a small button to lock the screen, so that the terminal cannot be unintentionally unfolded in the pocket. Furthermore, when the terminal is fully extended, the slot for removing the SIM card can be seen on the right . However, this device does not show any type of front camera, so it is very sure that OPPO already thinks of a mobile with a hidden selfie camera, since the company has also been working on this technology for some time.
Is it a real bet?
In the back, a triple camera system is noticeable, with a lens in the middle that stands out in size over the others. Their position is horizontal and they will move up when the screen is removed. It is not yet clear when we could see this type of mobile as a commercial bet. Patents put us on the trail of what the future may hold or something that will never become a reality.
