Microsoft is revolutionizing the use of Edge tabs in many ways. We already have the expected vertical tabs available, a function that allows us to move the tab bar to take better advantage of the width of the screen. But the changes do not stop here. Microsoft continues to look for a way to gain ground from Chrome by improving the way it works with the browser. Thus, the company is preparing a new function, in the form of a menu, which will help us to use the browser tabs much better.
Browser toolbars are getting too crowded with icons and tools of all kinds. What should be a simple toolbar, with the address bar, a menu of extensions and little else, right now it has all kinds of icons and functions. And, in the long run, that ends up giving an overloaded appearance, something that ends up confusing users.

Microsoft wants to simplify this toolbar without wasting features. And for this, he is working on a new menu, which will help us to work much better with the tabs open on our computer.
The new action menu for Edge tabs
This new menu has appeared by surprise to a very small group of users of the Canary version of the browser. In it, Edge wants to group three of the most important functions related to tabs:
- Enable / disable vertical tabs.
- Reopen recently closed tabs.
- Add all open tabs to a new collection.

This menu will be optional , and can be easily activated from the “Appearance” section within the Edge settings menu. If we activate it, this menu will appear when normal (not right) click on the vertical tabs button. If we deactivate it, by clicking on this button we will switch between vertical and horizontal tabs as usual.
Although this new function is really useful and interesting, since it groups the most relevant functions related to tabs in a single menu, users do not seem to like it very much. As we can see on Reddit, there are users who complain about having to do one more click to toggle the orientation of the tab bar, and who claim that recently closed tabs would be better seen from the browser history.
At the moment, this new function is in an experimental phase, and Microsoft may still change its operation. And it could even be that new functions were brought to it. We will see how this new function evolves.
Microsoft is gaining ground to Google, but it separates them a lot of distance
Microsoft is doing a good job with its web browser. The company has taken the best of Google Chrome (its Chromium engine), and removed all the bad from the browser (Google). From there, Edge has been receiving all kinds of functions and features that have made it grow and evolve in many ways. The vertical tabs, its improved privacy or the excellent PDF viewer are just some of the functions that this browser offers us.
Edge is constantly evolving. And seeing the news that Microsoft prepares every little bit, we can’t wait to see what their next step will be.
