For years one of the main complaints of many users when working with their favorite web browsers is the high consumption of resources that these programs make. All this is something that is especially evident in Google’s proposal, we are referring to the popular Chrome.
This is the most widespread and used application in this particular sector, so its developers try to optimize it as much as possible. However, over the years we have already been able to verify first-hand that they do not always succeed. All this despite the efforts and work of the search giant. We tell you all this because now a new functionality is beginning to be deployed that will allow us to improve the operation of the browser. Basically, all this is focused on saving RAM memory that we can use by default when working with this application.
Thus, Google is currently rolling out a new performance-related feature in its web browser, Chrome. At first the firm has called this feature Memory Saver, which makes it clear that it tries to save computer memory . Specifically, the function is designed to reduce the use of RAM by the browser. To give you an idea, this is achieved by freeing memory from the tabs that are not currently active.
This is a feature that is starting to ship right now and will reach all computers with the final version of Chrome in the course of a few weeks. However, in case it hasn’t reached your device yet, there is a way to enable it now to start using it right away.
How to save RAM in Chrome right now
Once we know all this, it is worth mentioning that the best option to find out if the function is already available in Chrome is to load its configuration page . To do this we just have to write this in the address bar:
chrome://settings/
At that moment, the configuration window that we are looking for in this case will appear on the screen. Now we just have to check if a section called Performance has been added to the left sidebar.
In the event that we do not see this new section, we can activate it through the Chrome experimental testing window. To do this we only have to type the following in the address bar:
chrome://flags/#high-efficiency-mode-available
Once we have restarted the program we already find the new Performance option in its configuration window. After clicking on the new option that appears, here we are going to find two functions. The first of them basically what it does is activate the RAM memory saver in Chrome. To give you an idea of how it works, say that from now on the program will free the memory used by the tabs that are not being used for a certain period of time.
At this point it is worth mentioning that the tabs remain open , so when activated the browser restores them so that we can use them at full power. Obviously the release of RAM and start-up is transparent to users. In turn, Google points out that this new function is specially designed for tabs that contain video and game content. Likewise, we will have the possibility of adding websites in which we do not want this new function to be applied.
