We are regularly seeing how the list of Apple products that have become old and obsolete increases. Today the Californian company has included a device that has been hated by many such as the iPhone 5c, possibly one of Apple’s biggest failures among its launches. The iPhone 5c is already an obsolete product
The iPhone 5c arrived in 2013 to have a cheaper version of iPhone on the market. In this way, it was a matter of bringing younger users, and with less purchasing power, closer to the world of the iPhone. In order to reduce these costs, we opted for a glossy plastic construction as well as an A6 processor and a 4-inch screen. The problem was that visually it was not a very attractive device and undoubtedly broke with the design to which users were accustomed. This caused that the sales were not as they hoped, not repeating the experiment until doing really little.
It can be said that the iPhone 5c was the predecessor of the iPhone XR, as it followed a very similar concept. But here they knew how to solve all those problems they made in the past, by launching an attractive team with a lot of potential. In this second attempt, sales improved significantly, something that has caused Apple to continue down that path with the launch of the iPhone 11 or iPhone 12.
Now, 7 years after its launch, Apple has included the iPhone 5c in the list of obsolete devices. This is a classification that applies to equipment that was discontinued for more than 5 years and less than 7. Unlike a few years ago, equipment considered vintage can go through the technical service of both the Apple Store and any other authorized store all over the world. The problem will obviously be that all the repairs must be paid for and it will also depend on the stock of the spare parts. The fact that a computer is outdated is that the necessary spare parts for its repair will not be manufactured, so if any of these devices presents a problem and the parts are not available to repair it, it will ultimately be unusable. This did not happen in 2018 when repairs were limited to the Apple Store itself only in the United States.
From 2022 if the life of the iPhone 5c for Apple will end, since they will become totally obsolete. This means that they will not be able to receive any kind of technical support in authorized stores or in the Apple Store. It will be from this moment when anyone who has this equipment and it breaks will be completely useless without any solution. For those with a good memory, the iPhone 5s was introduced at the same time as the iPhone 5c, but it has not been considered obsolete. This is because it stayed longer in the market so it still has at least one more year of technical support left.
