Days like Black Friday, Prime Day or Amazon’s Cyber Monday have become designated days in our calendar when it comes to online shopping. Events in which Amazon ensures irresistible prices on all kinds of digital devices, video games, books, clothing or any item that you can think of, because today Amazon sells almost everything. But all that glitters is not gold, since sometimes this advertising is misleading and leads to scams and scams in Amazon prices.
Fine to Amazon of € 17,600
The General Directorate of Commerce, Crafts and Consumption of the Generalitat Valenciana sanctions Amazon for illicit advertising carried out in the Black Friday and Cyber Monday promotions with 11,000 euros in each case. The multinational has accepted the fine filed, which has led to a reduction in the fine received of 80%, that is, 8,800 euros in each sanction.
One of the sanctions corresponds to Black Friday 2020 in which the Consumer inspectors were able to verify that after analyzing some prices of televisions or coffee machines they determined the prices indicated as usual were not real, since days before Black Friday some products were being sold for a price lower than the discounts announced on the day of the promotion.
In the case related to Cyber Monday, the inspectors reached the same conclusions as in the offers announced on Black Friday: the prices offered with succulent discounts were not real because days before the promotion the prices of the same items were lower.
Misleading advertising
The Minister of Sustainable Economy, Rafa Climent, points out that Amazon “really applied some discounts that later did not apply and that is fraud, especially with regard to consumers.”
Climent indicates that Amazon has made the payment without resorting to these sanctions, “probably because it is aware that it did not do things well.” Furthermore, it also asserts that such actions are not reasonable in the 21st century.
These types of sanctions show consumers that they must be careful with the offers and promotions launched by large companies. Buying on Amazon is very comfortable and simple, you don’t even have to be at home to receive an order thanks to the Amazon Locker, but our advice is that, if you are interested in purchasing an item through Amazon or the Internet in general, days first, do a follow-up to detect if the offers they advertise are as succulent as they seem or in reality they are not real because said product has had a lower price days before the promotion.
