There are many types of errors that we can suffer on a PC , and especially if you use the Windows operating system. The good thing about this one, however, is that the error codes give us a lot of information about what the problem is, and allow us to quickly find solutions to it. Today we are going to deal with the error 0x80070422 that, unfortunately, many users suffer on their PC.
This error usually appears in two possible ways: the first is the dreaded blue screen or BSOD during computer startup or restart, but it can also appear as an error message with the operating system booted. We are going to analyze what is causing this problem and how to fix it.
What is error 0x80070422 and what causes it?
This error is almost always related to Windows Update. It is possible that the error you see in the image above appears suddenly, without you doing anything special. This is because Windows updates, if you have them configured to download and install automatically (this is how it is configured by default), will have tried to install some of them without success, showing the error window. In fact, if you go to Windows Update (Start -> Settings -> Update and security -> Windows Update) you will see it again.
In addition to preventing the operating system from updating, this error can become somewhat annoying because Windows will try to reinstall the updates, and it will come out every time you try again without success until we fix it. Let’s see, therefore, what we can do to solve it.
How to solve this problem?
Since it is a Windows Update error, the first thing you should try to do is restart the PC, and as it starts up again go to the Windows Update section and try to install the pending updates, since many times what prevented The updates were installed was something you had open at the time, so doing it with the PC just started can help.
If there has been no success and you keep getting the same error, then the first thing you should try is restarting the Windows Update service . To do this, press the key combination WIN + R and type “services.msc” without the quotes. Click on OK and the Windows Services window will open, where you will have to search the list for the service called Windows Update or wuauserv .
Double-click on the service, and in the first tab check if “Disabled” appears under “Startup type”. If so, change it to “Manual” or “Automatic”, press OK and restart the PC to try again. If the service was already in automatic or manual but it appears as if it is stopped, click on the “Start” button in the lower area to manually start the service, and again go to Windows Update to try again.
If after trying this you still have the same problems, reopen Windows services with the same process as before, but now look for the service called “Network List Service” (Network List Service if you have it in English), click on Right-click him and select “Restart.” If this does not fix the error 0x80070422 either, check that you have the following services enabled and working (otherwise, you will need to enable and start them):
- BitLocker
- DCOM Server Process Launcher
- Network connections
- Windows Defender Firewall
Finally, if none of the above has worked, there is a workaround. Since Windows Update needs the PC’s internet connection to download updates, another possible solution for error 0x80070422 is to disable the IPv6 network connection . IPv6 is the successor to the IPv4 protocol, designed to allow many more network addresses, and although it will be very important in the future there are still many devices that do not support it, so it can cause these types of errors.
To do this, go to Control Panel (WIN + R and type “Control” without quotes) and then to Network and Sharing Center. Once there, on the right side click on Ethernet (or WiFi if you work through WiFi), and in the window that opens click on properties. There, check that you have IPv6 disabled (otherwise, disable it).
Once disabled, click OK, close all windows, restart your computer, and go back to Windows Update to see if your problem has been fixed.
