Windows is an operating system full of functionalities of all kinds. These what they try is to offer users of all levels enough customizable and adaptable options so they can adapt the software. With this what is intended is that both new and more advanced, can have a totally personal system and suitable for what they require on a daily basis with the PC .
For all this, most of the Redmond software regulars use almost constantly features such as the Settings application or the Control Panel that has been with us for so long. Here we can find, distributed among its options, a multitude of Windows functions. It is true that with the passage of time and versions, the Control Panel is losing importance with respect to the Configuration.

In fact and for a long time, there has been speculation that the aforementioned Control Panel will end up disappearing. Be that as it may, until that moment comes, it is still there for us. However, there are also many Windows users who, over the years, have gained experience and knowledge of the software .

Therefore, these functions to which we refer to you are somewhat limited. That is why they require other integrated solutions that they can use, such as the popular system registry . This is an element that we access through a complete editor that we have surely seen on more than one occasion. Of course, before continuing, we recommend that you do not make changes to it if you are not sure what you are doing. A misuse of the registry can lead to a malfunction of Windows in many of its sections.
What is the registry and how to open it
Therefore, at this point it is important to know that the Windows registry is actually a database that is responsible for storing Windows configuration settings. Hence how delicate it is, more if we consider its size and the number of tickets it houses. Therefore all this is used to store much of the information and settings of the operating system. These refer to aspects such as hardware, user preferences, operating system settings, etc.

Thus, when installing something new, to the registry we are talking about, a series of instructions and files also arrive in a specific location for that application. A good deal of additional information is included here all concerning that software we just added to Windows.
Therefore, once we know all this, in order to access this element that we are talking about, we can do it by typing the command regedit in the search box on the toolbar.

This will give us direct access to the Windows configuration element that we have been talking about.
Back up the registry
Of course, before changing anything here, to avoid problems or disappointments, we recommend making a backup of the registry. This is something that you will achieve in a few seconds and that can be of help in case of making a mistake. For this, everything is located in the File / Export menu, with which we create a .reg file with the copy of the registry.

Later, if necessary, we will only have to access this same menu option to select the Import option and thus recover that copy made.
At this point we will tell you that although it seems complicated, with a little practice and care, there are many advantages that we can get from this section. In fact, its use is quite simple, both when moving through its many entries, as when modifying them or adding new ones. This is something that over time we have been able to verify on countless occasions.
Modify protected registry entries
In this way and in a matter of seconds, we manage to change and customize the behavior of certain sections of the operating system to the maximum. Thus, it is enough to click with the right mouse button on any entry to add a new one, whatever the type. From it and to create new values in the right panel, the process is the same through the mouse. It is the case that we need to modify the value of any of these, we only have to double-click on it to be able to change it.

However, it may be the case that we find certain entries that we cannot modify a priori. The reason for this is that we find registry keys that are protected by the system itself, by default. With this, what we are trying to avoid is that they are easily modified, but it can also be done, as we will see. Therefore, in the event that we need to make changes to these protected keys, the first thing we must do is locate the key in question that we want to change. Once there, we click on it with the right mouse button to go to the next section.

From among the options that appear, we select Permissions, which will give us a new window in which we click on the button called Advanced Options . This is at the bottom of it, which presents us with a list of all users and their corresponding permissions on the registry entry that we have selected before. Therefore, we only have to search our account, so then we will see that we only have read permission on that entry .
Well, once we are here, what we have to do is double-click on our user account, which will already allow us to assign the Full Control permission. As you can imagine, this change will already allow us to make changes in this section of the system, just as it happens in the other free keys.
