Apple tablets are one of the most popular on the market because they have excellent hardware and one of the best software, with hundreds of applications and games that adapt to them. But, how much does an iPad cost in Spain? In this article we review the price that these devices currently have and we also review their historical prices and we do it in all ranges, from the most basic to the precious ‘Pro’ models.
Price of iPads currently sold
We find up to four iPad tablet ranges, which have differences both in terms of size and design as well as components. Obviously the price also varies in these and although each one has a focus, for practical purposes we could say that the order from cheapest to most expensive also refers to the most basic iPad in performance and the most advanced.

iPad (basic version)
This is the most basic version of Apple’s tablet that we find both in terms of price and specifications. These usually mount older generation processors , usually 2 years old. Aesthetically they continue to maintain the considered classic design with Home button and pronounced frames on the front. Also its storage is of smaller capacities, so all this serves in the end to lower the price of the iPad with respect to the other ranges.

The latest model launched and the only one for sale is the eighth generation iPad, also known as iPad 2020. Precisely that figure is derived from its launch date, in September 2020. This device has not officially changed its price at Apple and has not It looks like it’s going to do so until a newer version is released, which could leave this one out of the catalog.

iPad mini
This range of iPad is characterized by having always had 7.9-inch screens . Its main asset is its extremely compact size that makes it usable even with one hand. As far as processor is concerned, whenever an update of this range has been launched, the most advanced chip to date has been mounted, although it is obviously lagging behind because it is not a device that is currently being renewed.

The model that we find now was launched in March 2019. It is the fifth generation iPad mini also known as iPad mini 5, although Apple does not officially add that number. Despite the fact that it has been in the market for a long time, the company has not lowered its price and at the moment it is situated in a strange terrain as it has a chip that is already in the past for what would correspond to it and a Home button design that many are already too “old” to look at.

iPad Air
This is considered to be Apple’s mid-range tablet. It always improves in performance and benefits to the most basic model, taking even some characteristics of the most powerful models, although without reaching them. At the chip level, it mounts a state- of-the-art processor. Although it seemed to be a range destined to be retired after years without updates, it seems that Apple has picked up pace with them and launches a new one per year.

The fourth generation iPad Air is the last known to date. It was launched in October 2020 with a renewed design with 10.9 inches and a body of the same dimensions as the 11-inch ‘Pro’ models. It has a very good performance given by the same chip as the iPhone 12 and is even compatible with the second generation Apple Pencil. It has not dropped in price either since its launch.

iPad Pro
In the highest range of iPad we find models called ‘Pro’. Apple in its day bet on them as the most advanced devices, compatible with Apple Pencil and very powerful processors that are improved versions of those added in the iPhone. In these years it has become common for them to be released in two different sizes: 11 and 12.9 inches.

The last ones have been launched in April 2021 and incorporate as a main novelty an M1 chip that is the same as the Macs have, so its performance is beyond doubt. They incorporate other relevant features such as a dual camera with a LiDAR sensor and full compatibility with all kinds of accessories such as the Magic Keyboard with trackpad. Their prices vary depending on whether the 11 or 12.9-inch model is chosen, as well as its storage and connectivity.

AppleCare + price and no accessories included
Keep in mind that despite the fact that any of the iPad with accessories such as keyboards or the Apple Pencil may be advertised, these are not included in their box and must be purchased separately. What is included in the box, in addition to the tablet itself and the user manuals, is the power cable and the charging adapter. The iPad and iPad mini include a Lightning to USB-A cable, while the iPad Air and iPad Pro include a USB-C to USB-C cable. In none of these cases is there an additional cost.
What can be contracted during the purchase process and that is an extra expense is the extended AppleCare + warranty , which provides a series of benefits for possible future iPad repairs. In all models the price of this insurance is 79 euros , while in the 11-inch iPad Pro it is 139 euros and in the 12.9-inch iPad Pro it is 159 euros.
When does Apple lower the price of its iPads?
Formerly, Apple had a tradition to lower the price of its tablets after the arrival of a new generation. Usually these were price drops of around 100 euros. On average, the company kept its iPad in its catalog for 2 years, but from 2017 onwards it completely changed this paradigm. To this day, prices are no longer lowered but Apple directly discontinues its iPad when a newer generation of them is launched. Nor does the launch of a new range affect the price of another.
What in this article we have been seeing are official prices that Apple has for its tablets, either in its physical Apple Store or in the online store. However, it is possible that authorized sellers can market any of the tablets (whether current or discontinued) at lower prices, either due to a temporary offer or their own pricing policy. In any case, the vast majority of stores are committed to maintaining an identical or very similar price to that of the Californian company itself.
What Apple’s previous tablets cost
The prices of the different iPad ranges have varied over the years until reaching the current ones that we have seen in previous sections. In some ranges the price has remained more or less stable, while in other cases it has been increasing. We must bear in mind that the ‘Pro’ range did not exist until 2015 and it was not until its arrival that we found more expensive Apple tablets and that consequently they were dragging the rest of the models to increase their price.
We can see below a list with the prices of the iPads discontinued by Apple at their launch. It is possible to find some of them in third-party stores, reconditioned or second-hand and with different prices, something logical over the years and its consequent devaluation of the price.

- iPad (basic): the original model was launched in 2010 at a price that, compared to the current one, has not increased much. The third version is the one with the highest price from the start, but if we consider that at that time we did not find the ‘Pro’ models, we can understand this increase, more if we take into account that it later decreased.
- iPad (1st generation): from 355 euros
- iPad 2: from 355 euros
- iPad 3: from 479 euros
- iPad (4th generation): from 479 euros
- iPad (5th generation): from 399 euros
- iPad (6th generation): from 349 euros
- iPad (7th generation): from 379 euros

- iPad mini: this range had its premiere in 2012 with what has been the cheapest model to date, although in its successive generations it has not increased the price and if you look at what the fifth generation model is worth now you will see that it has remained intact since the second version.
- iPad mini (1st generation): from 329 euros
- iPad mini 2: from 389 euros
- iPad mini 3: from 389 euros
- iPad mini 4: from 389 euros

- iPad Air: Interestingly, the cheapest iPad Air model to date had the same price as the most expensive regular iPad. This is a range that has been increasing its price in each generation depending on the hardware updates that have been added to adapt it to the new times. The original model was released in 2013.
- iPad Air (1st generation): from 479 euros
- iPad Air 2: from 489 euros
- iPad Air (3rd generation): from 549 euros

- iPad Pro: this range is the one that has had more variable prices depending on their sizes since it was launched for the first time in 2015. Over the years they have been distancing themselves more from the rest of the iPad models and this has done that its price has also been increasing. Compared to the current ones, only the 11-inch model has maintained the price, since the 12.9 has been increasing until it reaches the value from which it starts today.
- iPad Pro (9.7 inches): from 679 euros
- iPad Pro (10.5 inches): from 729 euros
- iPad Pro (11-inch, 1st generation): from 879 euros
- iPad Pro (11-inch, 2nd generation): from 879 euros
- iPad Pro (12.9-inch, 1st generation): from 899 euros
- iPad Pro (12.9-inch, 2nd generation): ** from- iPad Pro (12.9-inch, 3rd generation): from 1,099 euros
- iPad Pro (12.9-inch, 4th generation): from 1,099 euros
