Not long ago, Logitech has launched its new G915 gaming keyboard , precisely as an evolution of the G815, so it is inevitable to wonder if it is worth paying more and buying the new model for the innovations it brings under its arm. So, next we are going to make a technical comparison between the Logitech G815 vs G915 gaming keyboards to see whether or not it is worth paying more for the new model.
The Logitech G815 has been on the market for a while, and even so it is a mechanical gaming keyboard that has a fairly high price for what is usual in the industry. For its part, the new Logitech G915 model incorporates some new features and has just come onto the market, but its price is significantly higher until it becomes one of the most expensive gaming keyboards on the market. As you can see, both keyboards are practically the same, being the only and greatest novelty of the G915 that is wireless. We can choose to connect it using the LightSpeed USB receiver or directly via Bluetooth, in which case it will also allow us to associate the keyboard with several devices at the same time if we want to use it on several PCs.
Both keyboards incorporate low profile (LOW) mechanical switches, with a choice of three variants:
- GL Brown: audible click and tactile feedback.
- GL White – No audible click and soft bump for tactile feel when pressed.
- GL Red: no audible click and linear response.
Both keyboards allow the configuration of their keys individually through the software, including their RGB lighting . Similarly, both keyboards have five dedicated macro keys on the left, with the ability to record macros “on the fly” (without software) and save them, and with three profiles built into memory. Of course, both keyboards also have N-Key Rollover anti-ghosting functionality, which will allow us to press all the keys we want at the same time and they will be captured instantly.
As for design, again we find that they are exactly the same keyboard, with the obvious difference that one has a cable and the other does not. They are very thin keyboards, one of the finest mechanical keyboards on the market , with only 22 mm total height (we can raise the rear with the usual lifting legs), made of high quality aluminum and with low profile switches and quick response .
Essentially, as we were saying, both the Logitech G815 and the G915 are the same keyboard but the first is wired (double USB, with USB Passthrough) and the second is wireless (and therefore the USB Passthrough has been removed), but technically They are equal. In fact, the G915 has Lightspeed wireless technology, which means that even operating in wireless mode it has the same delay as the wired version (not so if we connect it via Bluetooth, keep this in mind).
Is the Logitech G915 worth paying more?
Putting a keyboard next to each other, the difference is about 50 euros, and what we get in return is the absence of cables, and we lose the USB Passthrough. We would tell you that if the idea is to use the keyboard on a gaming PC, which will always be in the same place, it is not worth paying more for having the wireless functionality unless you are foodies of minimalism and you do not want to have a single cable on top of the table.
Now, if you intend to use the keyboard on several PCs or for example to control a mini PC connected to the TV in the living room, then it is profitable for you to pay more for the G915 since in that case you will obviously take advantage of its functionality wireless. But otherwise, the price increase is not justified and the best option (or at least the most profitable) is the Logitech G815.
