With the stiff competition that has appeared to Chrome recently (we are talking about Edge), Google’s browser is being forced to renew itself, developing new functions and features that may be useful to users. Therefore, little by little we are seeing some changes in the browser that seek to give it a renewed and modern touch, changes that seek to improve the browsing experience of users. One of the latest news that we are going to see in this browser is Commander , a function that, if we have ever used Vivaldi, it will surely be familiar to us.
Vivaldi has a function called “Quick Commands” that, by pressing a key, allows us to open a search bar from which to execute all kinds of quick commands in a simple way. This bar allows users to execute basic and simple commands, such as opening the history, to much more advanced commands, such as deactivating all the images on a website.

It is seen that Google has liked this idea and has decided to bring it to their browser so that all users can enjoy it. And it has already done so, under the name “Commander”, in the Canary version of the browser.
This is Commander, the new Chrome feature
The first thing to make clear is that you have to differentiate between Chrome Actions and this new function. Chrome Actions is a feature that allows us to execute certain commands in the browser from the taskbar, while Commander opens an independent toolbar in the browser from which to execute any action.
By pressing the keyboard shortcut Control + Space we will be able to see this new search bar, where we will have to type what we want to do to see the possible options.

As we can see, when writing “tab” we can see a series of actions that we can do with the tabs. Some of these actions can be done with a keyboard shortcut (but thanks to Commander we don’t have to memorize it), while other functions are not linked to any shortcut.
Google still has a lot of work to do. While Quick Commands has been around for a long time among users, and supports a large number of commands, Commander is still very green . In addition to being only in English, the commands it supports are still quite limited, leaving a bit to be desired. Over time it will surely improve and when it reaches the stable version of the browser it will be much better. But for now, it is clear that he still has work to do.
Activate Commander
At the moment, this new browser function is in an experimental phase. For this reason, Google only offers it to users within the Canary (development) version of it, and, in addition, it is deactivated by default. If we have already downloaded version 91 “Canary” of Chrome, we can activate this function by typing the following in the address bar:
chrome://flags/#commander
We must mark this function as ” Enabled “, and restart the browser. Clever. From now on, with the keyboard shortcut that we have indicated, we can launch the new search bar and start testing its features.
In case of having problems with this new feature, we can deactivate it again from the flags by restoring the value “Default” or “Disabled” to said input.
