When we surf the net there are many types of attacks that we can suffer. There are many threats that in one way or another can put our security and privacy at risk. In this article we echo the great increase in botnets and exploits in recent months. They are two cybercriminal activities that have had a greater presence lately. Why is this happening?
More botnets and exploits than ever
As we say, in recent weeks the number of botnets and exploits has increased considerably. Specifically, in the second quarter of the year the number of botnets increased by 29% and that of exploits by 13%. If we transfer it to daily figures, according to the report that we echo, there are more than 17,000 botnets and 187,000 exploit attacks every 24 hours.

This quarterly report has been submitted by Nuspire . It has indicated a large increase in these types of attacks in recent months. But he also gives reasons why this happened just now.
As they indicate, one of the main causes is the change to remote work . Many users have started to perform their functions from home due to the pandemic. This has led to important changes in people’s daily lives, changes in the devices they use, the networks to which they connect, etc.
Technical teams do not often monitor home routers to improve security and prevent possible attacks. That is used by hackers to carry out botnet attacks and exploits. They have become viable attack methods that can bypass such security measures.

ZeroAccess and DoublePulsar, among the threats
If we name specific threats, ZeroAccess must be mentioned among the main botnets. It is not something new, since it emerged many years ago although it stopped working in 2013. Now, after all this time, it has returned with more force.
Regarding exploits, DoublePulsar should be highlighted . It is an exploit developed by the NSA and which continues to be one of the main ones, accounting for 72% of all attacks of this type, according to Nuspire.
But there have been many more exploits and botnets that have been detected in recent weeks and that put the safety of users at risk. Precisely because of the increase in teleworking, we must protect our local networks more than ever. The objective is to prevent these types of threats from compromising our security and causing equipment to malfunction.
You can see the full report on the Nuspire page. There you will find all the information related to this increase in attacks.
We leave you an article where we explain how to know if our team is a botnet. We give some advice on what we can do to avoid it and not compromise our security with these types of problems.
