For the next five seasons , from 2022/2023 to 2026/2027, Movistar Plus+ will have the rights to broadcast all LaLiga matches after reaching an agreement with DAZN. However, those who are not customers of the operator and are only DAZN subscribers may be wondering what this new DAZN LaLiga package is going to mean for them.
The agreement reached by both parties is not reciprocal and ” the objective of making LaLiga more accessible among football fans” will not apply to clients from one side or the other. DAZN matches can be seen on Movistar Plus+ in a similar way to how Formula 1 currently broadcasts, by including the DAZN LaLiga package through the DAZN App or on the DAZN linear channels available on the platform.
What LaLiga matches can we watch on DAZN?
After the signing of the agreement, little has changed with respect to DAZN since the auction last December 2021 of the audiovisual rights of LaLiga, in which DAZN won 5 games per day except for three days that will be exclusive to Movistar Plus+ .
Of the 990 million euros per season that said auction cost, the portion of Movistar Plus+ had cost 520 million euros per season, from which it is extracted that DAZN paid the remaining 470 million euros in the auction for 45% of the package (Telefónica really has 55% thanks to having three full days).

However, what the agreement implies is a benefit mainly for Movistar Plus+ , since it pays about 280 million euros for each of the seasons (as a whole, it represents a saving of around 15% compared to the cost per current day) for the inclusion of the DAZN part and having 100% of the football content of the league competition for the next 5 years.
DAZN and Movistar will have the rights to LaLiga until 2027.
The clients of the streaming television sports platform, however, will continue as at the beginning of the negotiations, with 5 games in 35 of the 38 days that LaLiga will have. The company will be in charge of the production of these 5 games per day and “will incorporate a new team of presenters, narrators and commentators to print their own style to the broadcasts.”
How will you choose your matches per day?
Knowing how much the DAZN LaLiga package includes, let’s talk about quality. Does Movistar choose its 5 games first? If so, probably DAZN subscribers would not have such interesting matches. Fortunately, the agreement benefits both signatories.
In this sense, there is nothing to worry about, because the distribution is more or less equitable. Of the 35 days with shared broadcast, DAZN will choose the first game in 17 days (and therefore the most interesting of the day, a priori). Movistar will do it in the remaining 18 days, in addition to having it in the 3 exclusives, obviously.
DAZN and Movistar will share 35 of the 38 days.
In effect, it would be the equivalent that was once broadcast on Movistar Partidazo, so that either Real Madrid or FC Barcelona would be seen in the new platform package in those 17 days , because it would be rare for there to be a match without these protagonists that could have enough potential audience to choose it in the first position. We will have to wait for the LaLiga 2022/2023 calendar to be drawn up to find out how the days are going and anticipate who could stay in each game.
Finally, only the last detail remains to be known: how much the DAZN LaLiga package will cost for platform customers. DAZN recently raised the price to €12.99 per month for the monthly plan and €129.99 for the annual plan, but this had nothing to do with the future arrival of the Spanish club competition.
