Security is a very important factor for users. We have at our disposal a wide variety of options that we can use to protect our systems and equipment. In this article we echo a free tool from Microsoft that we are going to be able to use in Linux for forensic tests, to detect rootkits and malware . We already know that any operating system can be compromised.
Project Freta, the free Microsoft tool to analyze Linux
This is Project Freta, a cloud option that allows you to analyze security in Linux. It enables forensic testing to be performed to provide automated full-system volatile memory inspection of virtual machine snapshots. It can detect malicious software, rootkits and other threats that can be hidden.

According to security researchers, malware is becoming increasingly complex. This means that they use more adapted concealment techniques and it is more difficult to detect by traditional tools. They aim to empower every user or business to automate forensic analysis of VMs to the point that they can sweep volatile memory to search for unknown malware at the touch of a button.
The objective is always to improve the possibility of protecting the devices , of knowing how to detect the hypothetical threats that compromise us as soon as possible. Many threats sneak into the operating system itself, without the antivirus being able to detect them. This is a major problem and we need to avoid it.
Project Freta is available to anyone with a Microsoft or Azure Active Directory account. You can get a detailed report of the different sections, modules, system files, possible rootkits …
From Microsoft they indicated that they focused on Linux due to the need to take fingerprint systems in the cloud in a platform-independent way from an encoded memory image. He also cited the increased complexity of the project, given the large number of kernels publicly available for Linux.
This initial release version of Project Freta is compatible with over 4,000 Linux kernels, with Windows support in progress.

The importance of maintaining security
We must remember the importance of always maintaining security on our devices. When surfing the net we can run into many problems that compromise us. If we are using an operating system that has vulnerabilities, with malware integrated with any problem, our privacy and security could be at risk.
Therefore we always recommend having security tools . There are many programs that we can use with the aim of preventing the entry of malware and other threats that harm us.
But it will also be necessary to have the latest versions installed. Sometimes vulnerabilities can arise that are exploited by cyber criminals to achieve their goals. We must always have the patches that are available and thus correct these problems. In this way we will avoid risks that may compromise our devices.
