Hand in hand with Lenovo, Motorola has taken off to offer users good options, especially in the mid-range. The generations follow one another quickly and last September the Moto G9 Plus was presented , as a replacement for the Moto G8 Plus from last year. But, have things changed so much?
The eternal question for many users is whether it is really worth changing mobile phones from one year to the next. On many occasions the generational leaps are not so great , at least after 365 days. However, the Moto G9 Plus and Moto G8 Plus are remarkable enough to take a close look.

Screen and dimensions
The first thing that catches your eye is the size of the screen, since the Moto G9 Plus reaches no less than 6.81 inches, compared to 6.3 inches of its predecessor. The two terminals have FullHD + resolution, but only the G9 Plus is compatible with HDR10, in addition to having a more panoramic format of 20: 9 compared to the 19: 9 of the G8 Plus.

The dimensions and weight of both terminals are also like water and wine. In this sense, the Moto G9 Plus is 9.7 millimeters thick and weighs 223 grams, compared to 9.1 millimeters and 188 grams for the G8 Plus. There is also an important change in the design of the screen of the Moto G9 Plus, which changes the notch in the shape of a drop of its brother , for a hole to house the selfie sensor.
The seal of Snapdragon
Inside both devices we find the Qualcomm seal, but with different Snapdragon. The Moto G9 Plus integrates the 8nm Snapdragon 730G , while last year’s model mounts the Snapdragon 665. Both are accompanied by 4 GB of RAM, but the Moto G9 Plus increases its internal memory to 128 GB instead of the 64GB from his brother.

The difference in performance is notable , if we take as a reference the results of both terminals in a benchmark test such as AnTuTu. The Moto G9 Plus exceeds 222,000 points, while the Moto G8 Plus remains at 143,000 points.
Very different cameras
Very notable changes also in the cameras of both devices. The Moto G9 Plus sports four rear cameras with a 64-megapixel main sensor, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor, and macro and depth sensors of 2 megapixels each. The Moto G8 Plus remains very dignified in this regard , but the generational jump is very noticeable. In this case we have a triple camera with a 48 megapixel main sensor, a 16 megapixel ultra wide-angle sensor and a 5 megapixel depth sensor.

However, curiously, the selfie sensor with the highest capacity is in last year’s model , with its 25 megapixels housed in the classic notch, while the Moto G9 Plus reaches 16 megapixels, inside the hole of its screen. Both terminals can record video in 4K resolution at 30fps, or in FullHD at 30/60 or 120 fps.
Connections and battery
The good news is that they both keep the 3.5mm headphone jack and have NFC for mobile payments. There is also the Bluetooth 5.0 or the FM radio. In addition, they have a fingerprint sensor, side in the Moto G9 Plu and rear in the Moto G8 Power. The two currently move with Android 10, and are scheduled to update to Android 11.
In the battery section we find another notable improvement in the new model. The Moto G9 Plus has 5,000 mAh, and is compatible with 30W TurboPower fast charge, while the Moto G8 Plus has 4,000 mAh and 15W fast charge.
The price shows
Neither of the two terminals reaches 300 euros, but at the moment, we can get a Moto G8 Plus for 199 euros, while the Moto G9 Plus goes up to 219 euros. Given the great improvements of the new model and this minimal price difference, there is no doubt that the scale opts for the new Moto G9 Plus. However, if you already have a Moto G8 Plus, it may be better to wait for the next generation to change terminals and perceive even more changes.
