LaLiga Wants to Go Beyond the Operators and Offer Football Directly

LaLiga is considering among its plans to create its own television channel to offer LaLiga directly, without the need to use any operator that exists in Spain. With the departure in recent years of some of the stars of our national league such as Cristiano Ronaldo or recently Leo Messi, operators want to offer less money since it is becoming a less attractive product compared to other years.

This is one of the things to be achieved after the league has signed with CVC, a bank, an agreement that would inject up to 2.7 billion euros into LaLiga, an amount that would be of great benefit to all clubs and help improve their economy, as all have suffered the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, this contract is backed by the endorsement of the KPMG company.

I could use an OTT already created: LaLigaSportsTV

Thus it would be cheaper to see football both First and Second Division in our country. In fact, you could use LaLigaSportsTV, an OTT already created in 2019 adding a kind of plus or premium subscription.

LaLiga president Javier Tebas already had this possibility in mind before signing any agreement. The idea would be to create a streaming application similar to others that exist today such as Disney +, Netflix, HBO or Amazon Prime Video.

According to the president of LaLiga himself, the viewer who wants to watch football in our country will be able to do so directly by subscribing to this new channel and not using any operator . Even so, he has assured that this will take a while to happen, but that it will eventually come. He has even dared to say that it could arrive in 5 or 6 years.

Tebas wants to pressure the operators

Even so, he has also ensured that it is necessary to work on this new plan and draw it up to see what it will finally offer: if only soccer or if other sports will also be added. This technique by Thebes would be a way of putting pressure on the operators before the next auction of rights.

In this way, all fans could watch football and not just all those who have contracted football through the operators Movistar and Orange , which are the only operators through which football can be seen right now in our country.

So, we will see if this idea of LaLiga to create its own television channel to broadcast LaLiga finally comes out or if it will finally end up being just lip service. At the moment, the agreement with CVC is creating controversy in some clubs such as Real Madrid or Barcelona that released an official statement positioning themselves against that agreement, so we will have to be careful and see what happens in the end.

And you, would you subscribe to this LaLiga channel?
