The amount of data with which we handle on Windows-based computers is increasing. Actually this is something that is extended to all current operating systems and equipment. That is why we must know how to organize and save in the best way all those folders and files of our own to which we refer.
How could it be otherwise, the operating system itself puts at our disposal a series of integrated functions and applications that can be very helpful. For example, in this sense, we can highlight the widely used Windows File Explorer. This is a tool that, despite the years it has been with us, does not stop growing and evolving.
Advantages of Windows File Explorer
From here we have the possibility of carrying out a multitude of actions related to the data that we keep on the computer. Thus, we can quickly and easily open, move, delete, or copy files and folders of all kinds. All this through certain key combinations, with the mouse itself, or with the Windows menus . It will depend on the way that is most comfortable and bearable for us. Keep in mind that this is an element that we use daily.
At the same time, somewhat more hidden from the most basic functions, the File Explorer also presents us with multiple additional functions . Although these will be very helpful in most cases, sometimes they can also become a problem. An example is the assumption that we are going to talk about in these same lines.
Specifically, something that most likely has happened to you on several occasions is that we have been denied access to a certain folder. With this, what we want to tell you at the time we try to save a file in a folder, we cannot. It can also happen that when we try to open one of these widely used elements on a Windows 10 PC, an error suddenly appears that denies us access to it. This can be somewhat problematic, especially if we have important information saved.
What to do if Windows blocks access to a folder
To give us a more specific idea, we mean that a message appears on the screen that tells us that we do not have permission to access that folder. As you can imagine, this is something that almost no one likes, especially if we are the only users of this particular team. Thus, this basically means that at that moment we do not have the necessary permissions to access that specific folder in Windows 10 .
Therefore, the moment we click Continue with the mouse, it will show us another message. This actually tells us that permission to access that directory has been denied, followed by an operating system error code.
Therefore, this is Windows 10’s own way of making us see that at that moment we do not have access to that content. Specifically, you have to know that the error is shown when our user account does not have sufficient permissions to access that folder. With everything and with this, in the event that we are team administrators or we know the administrator password, we can easily correct this error. Thus, we will only have to add the necessary access permissions to achieve it.
How to access a folder locked by Windows
First of all, as we told you, the first thing we need to do is open the PC as an administrator, or at least know the password to access it. Once this is done, next we will have to locate the folder that is giving us problems again. After that, for example from the File Explorer itself, we click on it with the right mouse button. It will be then when it appears in the contextual menu of that directory, so in this case we only have to opt for the Properties option.
It will be then that a new window will appear on the screen that corresponds to the properties of the disk element with which we are dealing. In it we will have to go to the tab called Security and, in the section Names of groups or users , we will click on the Edit button.
This will lead us to the dialog box called Permissions, so in the section Names of groups or users, we select our current user account. The best thing would be that, as we mentioned before, we were the team administrator. With everything and with it, next we are in Permissions of ACCOUNT_DE_USUARIOS.
Change Windows folder permissions
At this point we must uncheck all the boxes that are selected in the Deny column. As you can imagine, this will give us access to that folder in which we had been denied access. Once we have unchecked all the Deny boxes, we just have to click on the Apply button. Say that this should fix the access problem we ran into at the beginning.
On the other hand, in the event that these boxes are not marked or are gray, we click the Add button. In the new window that appears, we are going to enter the names of the users that we want to have access to this folder, and we click the “OK” button. Finally and to finish, in the section Names of groups or users, we select Everyone and we mark Full Control in the Permissions section.
And it is that we must bear in mind that generally Windows computer administrators tend to restrict access to other users. In this way, by limiting the use of certain folders and files, they manage to maintain order within the disk drives of the Redmond operating system. Moreover, this way access to certain somewhat more sensitive content can be structured much better. Hence, on many occasions we will need the administrator password to carry out the changes described.
