These are programs that, based on new updates that are arriving, do not stop growing and evolving. This, as expected, is for the benefit of the users themselves. We must also bear in mind that at the same time they are gaining in complexity, so they are full of increasingly useful functions and components. At the same time we must take into account that many of these elements included, over time they have been passed from one version to another, as is the case of those that we are going to talk about here.
What are bookmarks in web browsers
Specifically in these lines we will focus on bookmarks , one of the objects that we use most in Internet browsers. As most of you will already know, these are used to save and classify all those web pages that we wish to remember in the future. Of course, as the time of use of a certain browser passes, the number of markers that we accumulate in our user, grow ostensibly. That is why losing them suddenly can be a serious headache for most.
And these bookmarks are accumulated during months or years of Internet browsing, since here we keep everything that is interesting or useful to us. So now we are going to show you the way to never lose them. We will do this by making a backup copy of the specific file that stores them. In this way we can keep it in a safe place, to later import them to the browser in case of disaster.
How could it be otherwise, we recommend that you make these backup copies of the bookmarks file, periodically. Thus, if there is a problem with them, we will have the most recent additions. Therefore, this is something that we are going to show you to achieve in the three main proposals in this regard, Chrome , Firefox and Edge Chromium.
Don’t lose your Google Chrome bookmarks
First of all we are going to refer to the most used browser, and by far, worldwide. This is the proposal developed by Google , Chome. This is software that over the years has stopped us from growing, gaining the trust of the majority. Well, to be able to make a backup of your bookmarks here, the first thing will be to open a File Explorer window.
Once in this, we have to place ourselves in the following route: “C: / Users / USER_NAME / AppData / Local / Google / Chrome / User Data / Default”. Therefore, in it we will see a file called Bookmarks, which is what interests us in this case, so we save it. A good site could be a USB stick , for example, to be able to take our bookmarks to any other PC.
On the other hand, in the case that we want to take these to another PC or another Chrome browser, it is enough that we copy this same file in the route previously exposed.
Avoid losing Firefox bookmarks
When it comes to Mozilla’s proposal with Firefox , to say that this is a software more focused on the privacy of its users that has long tried to match Chrome. However, despite having many followers, he has not yet achieved his desired goal. As it could not be from another, this is an alternative that also has support for markers. Thus, to locate the file that saves them, we will have to place ourselves in the path: “C: /Users/USER_NAME/AppData/Roaming/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles/nci6lezr.default/bookmarkbackups.
Here we will find several of these files with different dates that correspond to the automatic backups made by the browser itself. Therefore, the logical thing is that we choose the most current one, to save it, as before, in a USB key , for example.
Regarding the restoration of that saved file, in this case we can do it directly from Mozilla’s own browser. For this, what we do is place ourselves in your menu and click on Catalog / Bookmarks / Show all bookmarks. In the new window that appears, click on the Import and backup / Restore / Choose file menu. Here we can select the file previously copied to restore all bookmarks.
Don’t lose them again in Edge Chromium
And we are going to finish this review with the newcomer version of Microsoft’s browser, we refer to Edge Chromium . This is the proposal of the software giant based on the same Google Chrome engine, so they share many things.
Thus, in the case that you want to make a backup copy of these bookmarks that we mentioned, you are located on the disk path “C: / Users / USER NAME / AppData / Local / Microsoft / Edge / User Data / Default”, where You will see a file called Bookmarks. This is the one that we must save to keep it safe on a USB or external hard drive.
As in the case of Chrome, to restore these bookmarks saved on another computer or Edge browser, we will have to copy this file in the path indicated above.
