Cloud storage systems have become fashionable for a few years. It is a fast and convenient way to keep our most important files safe while being able to always have them available from any device. One of the best known cloud services in Microsoft‘s OneDrive , which offers 5 GB of free data to all its users and that we can use directly from our Windows computer.
Despite being its own application with Microsoft, this does not imply that sometimes we can find some synchronization problems that can cause the application to malfunction, preventing our files from being saved correctly in the cloud. Therefore, today we are going to review which are the main problems of OneDrive and how to solve them.

Fix problems with OneDrive
If we have problems with the synchronization with OneDrive on our Windows computer, we can try to perform the following operations to check that it works correctly again.
Restart the computer
It seems like a no-brainer, but in many cases, problems can be solved with a simple restart of the computer . It may be that any internal Windows problem has caused the synchronization to be cut or also some problem with the computer’s Internet connection, so it is important to start by restarting the computer and checking if the problem persists or has been solved.

Check the internet connection
Another reason and root cause why synchronization may fail. Remember that OneDrive is a cloud service that requires a permanent connection to the Internet to carry out its work. That is why a possible cause is due to a connection problem with our Internet connection, so we must ensure that we have a stable connection, simply by opening a page on our computer and checking if it loads.
Restart the app
If we continue to have synchronization problems we must manually restart the service. For this we will press the Windows keyboard shortcut + R so that the Run window appears. Here we must write the following command % localappdata% MicrosoftOneDriveonedrive.exe / reset.

Once the command is launched, the OneDrive icon will disappear from the system bar, reappearing after a few seconds. If after a while the icon does not appear again, we must proceed to launch the service manually. Therefore, we will start the Run window again and this time we will write the command % localappdata% MicrosoftOneDriveonedrive.exe

Reinstall or update the app
Update problems may also be due to the fact that we have an outdated version or that the application may have been damaged. To do this, the best thing is to make sure that we have the latest version available, and if not, update it or completely reinstall the application . We can update or reinstall it from the Microsoft Store. Once installed, we must check if the synchronization problems persist.

Common problems with file uploads
Be careful with the size of the files
When uploading a file or folder to OneDrive we have to be careful with its size, since it is not possible to upload files larger than 10 GB . Therefore, if we are trying to upload a video in high definition, an ISO image or any other file that exceeds that amount, the synchronization will not be able to be carried out. In that case we can choose to compress the file using a program like WinZip or WinRaR.
Manage storage
We must also be careful with the storage management of our OneDrive account, since if we exceed its capacity we will not be able to continue synchronizing files. Therefore, we must check the amount of space we have available . Thus, we must access our account and from the Storage Manager option, we can see the amount of free space we have.

In case the synchronization problem comes when downloading a file to our PC, we must check that we have enough space on our hard drive. To do this, we must right-click on the hard drive icon and click on the “Properties” tab. Then, in the “General” tab, click on “Disk cleaning” to manage our storage and free up space if necessary.

Check if the file path is too long
Another problem that can lead to connection problems is a file path that is too long. Each file path must not exceed 255 characters , so if you are trying to add a folder or file with a longer character extension it may cause syncing problems in OneDrive. For this reason, it is recommended to inspect all the folders stored in the application and check that the name is not too long. If so, we must rename it with a shorter route.
