May 2020 Update , the 2004 version of Windows 10 , has been with us for several weeks. This is the latest version of the operating system, and brings with it a host of changes, enhancements, and fixes. Above all, the number of users with problems installing this new version of the operating system is much less than the number of users with problems in the previous versions. However, this does not mean that the new version of the operating system is free of problems, both when installing the new version and, once installed, when using the new 2004 version of the operating system.
The new May 2020 Update is coming to users in waves. This means that users who have modern hardware and do not use potentially incompatible software are already receiving the new version. And other users will gradually receive it over the next few weeks.

If we already see the new version of the operating system in Windows Update it means that it is already ready to arrive, and that we should potentially have no problems. However, this is not being the case.
Error 0x80073712 when installing version 2004 of Windows 10
One of the most frequent error messages that users encounter when trying to upgrade to this new version of Windows is with the message 0x80073712. Not even Microsoft has given details about this error message, but everything indicates that it is a compatibility problem, specifically with some internal Windows file that must be corrupt.
Luckily, users who are seeing this error message on their computers can fix it very easily.
Restart the PC
To do this, the first thing to do is restart Windows. Do not turn off and on, but restart. When Windows starts up again we must check if the error continues to appear or the installation of May 2020 Update already starts without problems.

Use DISM
In case the update still doesn’t work, the next thing to do is try to repair the Windows installation. To do this, the easiest and fastest way is to use the DISM command to repair Windows. This command will analyze the status of the current installation of our PC and, if it detects any corrupt or damaged file, it will allow us to automatically repair it.

Reset Windows
We may still have trouble installing this new version of Windows. And, in that case, everything points to a compatibility problem with a driver or with a specific program.
At this point, what we should do is try to restore our Windows. We can choose the options to keep our data or restore Windows completely to erase all the data and start from scratch with it.

After resetting the computer, error 0x80073712 should have disappeared from Windows Update.
Media Creation Tool Does Not Open
Windows Update error 0x80073712 is not the only problem facing users trying to install the new version of the operating system. One of the alternatives to be able to update Windows 10, if we don’t want to use Windows Update, is to resort to the media creation tool.
This tool, developed by Microsoft, is responsible for simplifying the process of downloading and installing the new version. However, some users find that this program does not open.

If we have problems opening this wizard, what we should do is run it manually with Administrator permissions. When we run the program file for the first time, even if we don’t see the previous screenshot, all the programs are extracted into the following directory: C> $ Windows. ~ BT> Sources.
So, what we must do is run the file ” Setupprep.exe ” found inside this directory, with Administrator permissions, to start with the installation of the new version of the operating system.
In any case, we recommend that you do not force the May 2020 installation if it does not appear in Windows Update. It is better to wait for the new version to arrive when it has to arrive. It will save us trouble.
Other known bugs from the May 2020 Update
In addition to the previous problems, we cannot forget the other problems that continue to affect users who have updated to this new version. The problems that Microsoft has confirmed and admitted are:
- Problems connecting Bluetooth devices. A failure related to the Realtek drivers prevents us from connecting to these devices.
- Errors with audio drivers. Users with Conexant ISST, Conexant or Synaptics drivers are experiencing all kinds of audio-related errors on their PCs.
- IME languages don’t work.

If we have any of these problems, and we cannot continue using the PC normally, we recommend that you choose to uninstall the 2004 version of Windows 10 and return to the previous version.
