Among all the technologies that appear in smartphones, those that are intended to improve speed are especially useful and necessary for us, we all want our mobile to go as fast as possible and Xiaomi has put a lot of emphasis on this. To achieve this, it takes advantage of the RAM , which although it is a temporary memory and is released again after a few seconds or minutes, has great advantages.
Specifically, the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra was the first smartphone to enjoy this technology, but after being tested in this unit with MIUI 12, its arrival is expected in other high-end models. How RAMDISK works on Xiaomi
Computer connoisseurs will be familiar with the term RAMDISK, having been using these devices for years. What Xiaomi has done is to adapt it to its smartphones in order to achieve that speed that until now was hard to imagine. The RAM memory with LPDDR5 technology offers a speed of about 44 GB / s on average, while the internal memory UFS 3.1 stays at the average 750 MB / s, representing a big difference that Xiaomi wanted to take advantage of.
With the large 8, 12 or 16 GB RAM memory that the Mi 10 Ultra integrates, they have been able to dedicate a part to the processes that need a higher speed even temporarily and this is what has allowed record download, transfer and reaction speed . When we download an app we are not only using the data network or WiFi we are also asking our mobile phone to record a new app in memory, as this is now done by RAM with a speed that was impossible to imagine previously.
Is the speed so noticeable?
Using approximately 50% of the available RAM memory of the smartphone, it has been possible to reduce load times by at least 40% and at most 60%. This changes remarkably in our use with the mobile since the processes are practically instantaneous no matter how demanding they are. If in other cases we download an application in just 10 seconds, now we can do it in less than 5 seconds.
In the graph itself that Xiaomi has shown, it is possible to see the part of this memory destined for the RAMDISK , which is adapted depending on each model. The possibilities of this technology have started with file transfers and application downloads, but it is expected that it can be applied to many other processes in the very near future.
This will make the RAM memory continue to grow in phones with the aim of improving the speed of mobile phones as we had never imagined.
