On many occasions it has been speculated about all the information that WhatsApp saves from its users, however, only the company itself knows specifically all the information that it saves on its servers. However, the messaging application itself offers a function unknown to many, being able to request information about our account. But what does this mean and what information does it refer to? So you can download everything WhatsApp saves about you.
If you want to know what information the messaging app has about you and what it saves, you can request that they give you information about your account. Although it is not the best known or most used function, it is possible to find it easily, so we will tell you how to get to it and carry out this process. First of all, you should know that this report will not include your messages, so if this is what you want to know, you will have to do it in another way.
Request the report
What steps must we follow to request the WhatsApp report in the app
- We open the app on our mobile
- We touch on the menu button
- We enter Settings
- Next, we select the Account option
- And finally, we touch on Request info. from my account
In a period of about 3 days , we will receive a notification to know that we already have the report available. You will not be able to cancel the request once you have confirmed it. It will appear that the application has been sent and the day it will be ready . You will have a few weeks to download it once it is available, after this time you will have to request it again. If, during the time that elapses from when we request our account information and the report is available, we delete our WhatsApp account, change our device, or re-register our account, the request will be automatically canceled and we will have to request a new one.
Download the report
As soon as the requested information is available, we will receive a notification from the messaging application on our mobile indicating that our account report is available. Therefore, we can now proceed with its download as follows:
- We open WhatsApp on the mobile
- From the app menu we go to Settings
- Next, we enter the Account option
- We touch on Request info. from my account
- And then Download report .
Automatically, the download of a file in .ZIP format will begin on our device. Inside, we will find two files, one in HTML format and the other in JSON . We can open the HTML with the browser itself, while we will have to export the JSON to open it with another application. To do this, we can send ourselves a copy of the file by email to download it to our PC and be able to open it later. Basically, the information is the same as what is displayed when we open the HTML, so there is no need to open the JSON file either. And we will have all the content stored.
What information is there
As soon as we open the report, we will see that it is divided into four sections, user information, service conditions, registration information and settings. The first section that we find is User information , and without a doubt, the most important. Among the most relevant data are:
- Date on which we have requested the report
- Our phone number
- Account name
- current ip
- Operating system of our mobile
- Whatsapp version we have installed
- OS version
- Manufacturer of our smartphone and device model
- Profile photo at the time of requesting the report
- Profile photo update date
- List with all the telephone numbers of our contacts
- Name of all WhatsApp groups to which we belong
In the Terms of Service section, we will find dates on which we accept the terms of service, while, within Registration information , we can find information about the platform of our phone, the operator that supplies us with the network, or the name of the device.
