RecordCast – Free Screen Recordings Made Easy

Screen captures of the computer screen can be very useful for many things, for example, for creating tutorials for videos or even for online classes. In most cases, you use a separate program that supports these functions. But amazingly, there are online alternatives too. You really wonder how the manufacturers manage that you can record your entire screen or just certain program windows via the browser. One service that offers such features online is the RecordCast screen recorder.

How does it work?

After you have opened the RecordCast website, you click on the “Start Recording” button, and you get to the following view for screen recording. Here you can choose between three audio options.

The Microphone picks up the sound from a connected microphone.

System Audio uses the sound output from the PC / device end.

No Audio: no sound is recorded at all

Now you just have to click the big red round button to start the recording process. Depending on the browser settings, in my case, I used Chrome, the permissions that the web application should have access to the screen are asked again. Here you can allow dedicated access to a specific program window or share the entire screen or a specific Chrome tab.

When you are finished with your screen recording, you click on the stop symbol in the browser to stop and finish the recording.

The finished video is now displayed and can be played, downloaded, or edited directly in the browser.

If you download the video, it will be saved in the WebM format with good compression.

Are there any hidden costs?

RecordCast is completely free to use. There are no costs anymore, neither for recording nor for downloading the recordings. It is optional to register if you prefer to organize your recordings online.

Here, you can record more videos for your screen or from a webcam. You can also add images, and audios, text animations, background, etc. to make your recordings look perfect.

Install nothing

Absolutely good, especially for occasional use, is that absolutely nothing is installed on your own operating system. No program and no browser extensions and plugins are required. This means that there are no program files or registry entries on the PC that are only used once and then never again.

At the moment, RecordCast only works on the PC, so it is not suitable for iOS or Android devices. We hope it will allow us to use the service from any device. I already find it a bit magical how it works entirely on the desktop. I’m really curious to know how it will work on the iPhone, as Apple is known to place great emphasis on security and dedicated authorizations.

Conclusion

RecordCast is particularly suitable when you need a quick screen recording and don’t want to install or even buy a program right away.
