One of the most annoying things about smart speakers is their high sensitivity to the wake command. Being so calm at home, without opening your mouth and that at once your speaker tells you that he has not understood what you have said or that he does not stop lighting up thinking that you may have required his services is not comfortable. Luckily, Google speakers provide a solution to this and we will tell you how.
Hey Google

For many users, having their smart speaker activated every two by three, either just turning on the lights or indicating that they could not understand what was meant, is not comfortable at all. What’s more, it becomes one of the reasons why some end up rejecting the idea of integrating it into their home or workplace.
Firstly because of the interruptions and secondly because it generates a certain degree of mistrust when thinking that it could be spying. Ok, the latter is not so, but you know that everyone is free to think what they want and some are convinced that it really happens.
However, returning to the topic at hand, Google speakers began to receive an update that allowed setting the level of sensitivity of the microphones when detecting the command “Hey Google” or “Ok Google”. Thanks to this, not only were these false activation problems solved, but also those situations in which, due to distance or ambient noise, it was difficult for the speaker to detect when it was required or not.
This update was released some time ago, and is progressively expanding. Of course, it may not be available for your language at the moment. So you will have to be patient and consult the option from time to time. It may not be long in coming, especially seeing the news of Android 11 and the interest that is being paid in everything related to voice control.
Anyway, if this option is active, this is how you can adjust the sensitivity of your Google smart speaker.
How do you adjust the listening sensitivity of your Google speaker?

To adjust the sensitivity to “Ok, Google” the first thing you need to do is open the Google Home application from your mobile device, available for both iOS and Android. Once inside, check that the “Hey Google” Sensitivity option appears. If it appears, this is how you can adjust the sensitivity.
- Open Google Home
- Select your smart speaker
- In the settings, look for Sensitivity to “Hey Google”
- Sets one of the three levels available: low sensitivity, default and high sensitivity
Once all this is done, the behavior of your smart speaker will vary and with it the experience. If for some reason you are not convinced, you can always return to the previous value . But a priori it is a very practical option that affects each speaker individually. This means that the loudspeaker in the kitchen or other noisier environments could have a higher sensitivity, while in the bedroom the opposite. It is all a matter of testing.
