Windows 10 is much more than just an operating system to work with. Microsoft has put a lot of interest in making its operating system one of the best platforms to play that we can find. The game bar, or Game Bar , is one of the most interesting accessories that we can find. Here we are going to find us with a series of “gadgets” that we can anchor to the desktop, or superimpose on the games, and that will allow us to have our social functions at hand or control the PC hardware while we are playing. And, inside this game bar, a new gadget has just arrived: a task manager for gamers.
This new task manager started reaching Xbox Insider users in late September in “test mode.” Although it was expected to reach all users for the launch of the October 2020 Update , it seems that Microsoft has advanced its plans and, since this weekend, this new gadget has begun to reach all users.
The new Resources widget is available to users as of Game Bar version 5.420.9252.0 . Of course, its activation is being carried out gradually, so it may still take some users to see it activated. As Microsoft indicates in its description, this new gadget helps us identify and manage which applications are using PC resources, such as CPU, GPU, RAM and Disk. In case the resource monitor still does not appear, then we will have to wait a few more days. We must also make sure that we have Windows, and the Xbox GameBar, up to date.
How to activate the new gaming resource monitor or task manager
The first thing to do is make sure you are using a production version of Windows 10. This new task manager is available for users of versions 1903, 1909 and 2004 . Of course, it will be for everyone upgrading to the 20H2 system as well.
The first thing we will do is open the Windows 10 game bar. To do this, we will simply use the keyboard shortcut Windows + G to open the overlay screen from where we can access all the game options that Microsoft offers us.
Next, we will click on the button on the left to open the list of gadgets, and we will activate the “Resources” button. If we want to have it at hand at the top, we can click on the star icon that appears,
We can now see the new process panel. We can sort them all by name, use of resources, and even close them by clicking on the X that appears next to each of these processes. Thus, we can end any process while we are playing without having to open the Control + Shift + Esc panel.
Turn this monitor into a desktop gadget
The widgets of the Windows 10 game bar are designed, above all, to see them when we press Windows + G, on the superimposed screen that appears. However, if we want, we can anchor them on the desktop, as if they were gadgets.
To do this, we simply have to place them at the point where we want, and click on the icon with the shape of a pin that appears. We will see that its appearance and transparency change (according to our options) and, from now on, the gadgets will be anchored on the desktop, being able to always have them in view.
Thus, together with the FPS counter, we can have all the hardware of our PC controlled.
