We are getting closer to one of the most anticipated WWDCs in recent years. Not only because of what operating systems like iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 will bring us, but also for the future of Macs with the already almost confirmed inclusion of ARM chips. The possibility in addition to seeing an external redesign on Apple computers resonates strongly these days, but it is still not clear to us whether it will be for ‘normal’ iMac, iMac Pro or both. We will theorize about it in this article.
The March iMac that never came
The month of March is usually very given to Apple launching new devices to the market, even holding special events to present them. However, this year the COVID-19 pandemic caused that not only was there no act, but also what was presented had to be done through a press release. See the iPhone SE 2020 as the best example, although we do not believe that this device would have given enough to be presented in style in a keynote. Be that as it may, the products that the Californian company had planned for this month, had to be delayed and launched in the following weeks and months.

The iPad Pro 2020 with its Magic Keyboard, the renewal of the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro and, new iMac? Yes, according to sources close to Apple and based on analyst reports, it was possible to know that the desktop computers on the block had to have been renewed in these months. In fact, it coincided with the usual renewal schedule for this range, but we saw absolutely nothing. Beyond its components, there was talk of the possibility of reducing their frames, although not exaggerated either because it would be somewhat more similar to what happened with the 16-inch MacBook Pro, so the 21.5-inch iMac could having been similar in size with a 23-inch panel.
We do not know if the coronavirus was also the cause of this delay or if these plans never really existed. In any case, we present ourselves before a WWDC 2020 in which the rumors point to something very different from what was said only a couple of months ago. The well-known filter Jon Prosser along with other experts predict that the firm led by Tim Cook will show a significant change in terms of iMac design.
Is the iMac Pro the best placed?
Historically WWDCs focus purely on developer software and tools, and when products have been unveiled they have been from teams very focused precisely on professionals. Last year’s Mac Pro is an example of this, but also the first and only iMac Pro so far and that was presented at the 2017 conference. Precisely the latter has many ballots to be renewed this 2020, since it has been very behind the other version of Apple professional computers and there is a large number of users who are demanding a renewal.

In the commented rumors about the design renewal of the iMac, there is talk of designs that would establish a hybrid between the iPad Pro and the Pro Display XDR, leaving a front panel with hardly any frames and with highly advanced and superior screen technologies than current ones. . But it is curious that at all times there is talk of “iMac” without highlighting whether it is just that range or if the information can be referred to the ‘Pro’ model, which we already see as needing a change this year. Therefore, the question arises as to whether it will be the normal iMac that is renewed or will it be just the iMac Pro.
As we said, this year is very strange in terms of launches and therefore it would not be unreasonable for Apple to break with its usual WWDC line of focus and be able to open their hands to present products that, normally, would not see the light in a event of this type. Therefore if we believe that the normal range of iMac could be renewed at this event, but it does not have to be with a renewed design. In fact it would be very strange to find that the iMac range has a more modern and sophisticated design than the iMac Pro range.
Beyond these conjectures, there is really little to get out of doubt. The rumors and alleged leaks will be confirmed, or not, next Monday from 19:00 Spanish time.
