The Always One Display function is increasingly present, although it is expected that in the near future it will reach many more devices. In Huawei‘s case, the feature is operational for some of its best devices. However, even though AOD has improved a lot in EMUI 10.1 , it still doesn’t lend itself to user customization, at least not officially.

This function is being implemented slowly but surely, since it depends on the type of screen of the devices. At the moment only Huawei OLED panel phones can enjoy it. AOD allows you to customize the lock screen so that it can display the time, date, battery status or various notifications , while the screen is off, thus reducing the energy consumption of always turning on the screen to consult this data .
With the arrival of EMUI 10.1, Huawei introduced an improved AOD, including new themes, colorful or 3D effects . However, the user is still unable to use their own themes as AOD background. However, from the XDA forums they have found a solution to be able to do it easily.
How to put a custom background in AOD
- The first requirement is to have a mobile compatible with the function, such as the flagship terminals of the Huawei P40, P30, Mate 30, Mate 20 or P20 families .
- Then we will have to download the following –zip file that contains themes. Then we will have to unzip them.
- Now we will download an AOD theme. The one below these lines is used as an example to create new ones. We can download the same one and replace it later with the new ones from the .zip file.

- We connect your phone to the PC and go to Internal memory / Huawei / Themes / HWAods / and copy the downloaded theme (like 190B8F0EAA2F39B6D2675368F460C82C.hwt) on the desktop.
- Now, using 7-Zip we open it (right click / open) and in turn we open com.huawei.aod / res / drawable-xxhdpi / Now we replace the digit_bg.png with one of the zip photos. Then we use the arrow in the upper left to go back (SAVE) / go back again (SAVE). Then we close the hwt file.
- The last step is to copy the new theme to the / Huawei / Themes / HWAods / folder from the phone and replace the old one (without changing the name). Then we go to Settings / Home screen and wallpaper / Always on Dsiplay / Clock style / Download more / There we will have to select the one previously downloaded and click on “Apply”. The new fund should look smooth in ODA.

And my own photos?
Although the archive provides a good number of photos to test new AOD designs. We can also create our own. To do this, we must change the size of the image to 1080 × 492 or 1080 × 788 depending on the size and quality of the photo. Then we convert it to .PNG format and change its name to digit_bg. Finally we repeat the last two steps above to configure it as the background.
