How to Save Passwords on iPhone

An average user today has between 70 and 80 passwords to memorize. Almost nothing! Instead of recording everything on a laptop or, much worse, using the same password for each account, it’s easier and safer to save passwords on your iPhone. Thanks to the AutoComplete function, you can make your iPhone save passwords and enter them every time you log in to one of your accounts. You did not know? Well here we tell you how to save passwords on an iPhone.

Password on iPhone

We will show you how to activate AutoComplete for Safari and we will see how to use Apple Keychain, both on your iPhone and on other Apple devices. Both processes should make saving passwords on an iPhone as easy as it is secure.

How to save passwords on an iPhone

To save the passwords on your iPhone, you simply need to activate AutoComplete and we will tell you how to do it:

  • Go to Settings .
  • Go to Passwords and accounts .
  • Press AutoComplete to change the slider to the green on position.

Now you have AutoComplete operating on your iPhone. You can use it every time you log into an account or create a new one. When creating a new account, it will automatically enter a strong password for you. You can select Use strong password to use that password, or you can Choose my own password instead. Even by choosing your own password, you can change your mind and select Suggested Password at the top of the keyboard, which will enter an automatically generated password.

Regardless of whether you choose a suggested password or yours, AutoComplete will remember the saved usernames and passwords and enter them quickly when you log into an account.

How to use Keychain on iPhone (and other Apple devices)

You don’t need to use Keychain to save passwords on your iPhone. However, if you want to save the passwords to your iCloud account and use them on your Apple devices, you must use Keychain.

We show you how to activate it on your iPhone: Go to Settings> Apple ID> iCloud . Once in iCloud settings, scroll down and tap Keychain. Lastly, tap on i Cloud Keychain to make the slider move to the green position. (You can follow the same process to activate Keychain on an iPad).

Next, if you want to be able to use your saved passwords on the Mac, you should do the following. Go to Apple menu> System Preferences> Apple ID> iCloud; Please note that for MacOS Mojave or earlier you must select iCloud immediately after System Preferences . Lastly, click on Keychain to bring up the green check mark next to it.

Now you can enter iPhone passwords on your Mac, and vice versa.

Third-party password managers

AutoComplete offers the easiest way to save passwords on an iPhone. However, you might be interested in digging into one of the many third-party password management apps available for iOS. Among them are Dashlane, 1Password and Bitwarden, and they also save passwords on your iPhone, allowing you to quickly enter them when logging in to one of your accounts. Some may require a monthly subscription and are slightly more complicated than AutoComplete, but are generally very effective at what they do.
