How to Add a New Email Account in Mac

Mail is Apple‘s native application to manage emails and is available on multiple systems, including macOS. There are other alternatives to this, but if this is the one you like and with which you manage your emails more comfortable, it will be useful to know aspects of it. In this post we show you how to add a new account in Mac Mail so that you can manage another account different from the one you have currently registered.

If this is the first time you use Mail on the Mac

If you have recently restored the Mac or it is the first time that you are going to open the Mail application, you will verify that there is no account associated with which to manage emails. The configuration steps to follow are very easy and intuitive, as we explain below:

  1. Open the Mail application.
  2. Select the provider of your account . There is support for accounts from iCloud, Outlook, Google, Yahoo, Aol and even others by adding the server automatically. If you don’t see this option first, you must go to the top menu and click on Mail> Add Account.
  3. Enter the information related to your account , such as name and password. In order to carry out this process, Safari may be required to authenticate on the provider’s website.
  4. You can choose whether or not to synchronize contacts, calendars and notes of your Apple ID with that email account.

Once this is done you will have your account associated with Mail and you can manage all your emails from this application.

Add new account to Mail and manage several at once

If you already have an account added to Mail you can add more. This is useful if, for example, you want to have emails from your personal account and those from your work account in the same inbox. The process is similar to adding an account for the first time, following these steps:

  1. Open the Mail application.
  2. Go to the top bar and go to Mail> Add account.
  3. Select the provider of your account . Again you have multiple providers available to select.
  4. Enter your account information such as name and password and complete the steps through the browser if required during the process.
  5. Choose whether or not to synchronize contacts, calendars and notes.

Once this account has been added, you can check how all received, sent, deleted and drafted emails are synchronized. The management of these will be done from the same interface without having to switch between them, as if it were a single email account. Of course, you should take into account now since email you are sending the emails to not be confused and send it from another account.

Delete an account in Mail

If you want to delete one or more accounts from the Mail application on Mac, you can do it this way:

  1. Open the Mail application.
  2. Go to the top bar and go to Mail> Preferences.
  3. Go to the Accounts tab .
  4. Click on the account you wish to delete.
  5. Delete the account by pressing the minus (-) button.

It should be noted that if you have your account synchronized with the iCloud keychain, you must delete it from “Internet Accounts” in System Preferences. However, you will be able to redirect to this section from a pop-up window that will appear when you try to remove it from the Mail application.
